Title: The pyramid of Acatitlan
Medium: Stone
Location: Santa Cecilia, Tlalnepantla de Baz, Mexico
The pyramid of Acatitlan is an amazing and well preserved part of the Aztec history that was built between the 13th and 15th century. This ancient pyramid is a temple dedicated to the Aztec gods Huitzilopochtli and Tlaloc. Similarly, this historically significant pyramid used to be part of a much larger ancient complex during the Aztec Empire’s time period. A plaza, a ball court, and a palace were also constructed nearby the pyramid originally. However, the pyramid and the other structures were partially destroyed by the Spanish conquerors. The Spanish conquerors who stole the stones used them to build their homes and churches. Nevertheless, it was reconstructed and restored by an architect and archaeologist in the 1960s and is now a wonderful destination.
