Amagüestu, the Asturian name for “toasting” chestnuts is an ancient tradition in Asturias. It is celebrated in autumn when Asturian people gather to taste chestnuts, eaten in paper cones and drink “sidra dulce”, it is apple juice that has been made by pressing apples in the cider-press house, but without fermentation. Therefore, it has no alcohol and can be drunk by both adults and children. Long time ago chestnuts were verypopular in the rural  Asturias before the corn and potato arrival.
