1) Charity

By participating at the Virtual MUN you will support a good cause: All participation fees (15€ per Delegate) will be donated to an organization active in the fight against Covid-19 (pending small conference expenses). The unique feature of the conference: the Committee will decide with its final resolution about the exact organization the money will be donated to. Therefore, it will not be a mere simulation since delegates will decide about actual money and their resolution will have an actual impact.

2) Replacing Cancelled MUNs

All the upcoming MUN conferences had to be adjourned indefinitely or cancelled entirely. To ensure that students interested in the work of the United Nations and diplomacy can still engage in MUN, it is necessary to create alternative offers. Virtual MUN enables students to discover and pursue their passion about Model United Nations despite social distancing. All features of a „normal MUN“ will be replaced by digital platforms allowing formal and informal debates and even providing social events in the evening. This ultimately will spread the MUN Spirit and connect students in times of Covid-19.

3) Improving Online Negotiations

As the Committee will be simulated in online meetings, delegates have the possibility to improve their skills in online negotiations. Currently, many inter-governmental organizations already work digital like the Eurogroup. There will also be a virtual meeting of G20 energy ministers hosted by Saudi Arabia soon. The leaders of tomorrow will have to be able to negotiate not only in person but also digitally at virtual summits. VMUN enables students to gain experiences that will be inevitable in a digitalized post-covid-19 world.
