And I would like to share my experience in mixing on touch screen? it is way more easy than you think.

How did I start mixing music on touch screen?

At the beginning of my DJ experience (since 1990's) I was mixing music on all the systems starting with vinyl, big magnetic tapes, cassette tapes, CDJs. Everything changed In 2015 when I have purchased a multi-touch laptop (Acer R7) and love it. For traveling convenience, I have tried to find a good mixing software for Windows to be able to mix on touch screen directly, without using an external mixer, so I have downloaded Virtual DJ software and start mixing.

I have started to mix on Virtual DJ 7'th version first, but it was not working very well and does not have multi-touch capabilities. After that I upgraded to the 8'th version and I have noticed that it is a complete change. The software run smoother and faster without glitches and the sound is much more clear. I am amazed on how Virtual DJ grows and upgrades, been faster and smoother every day...

Since I have graphic design skills and ideas, I have started to develop skins for Virtual DJ software been able to use them on my multi-touch laptop. The good thing is that mixing on touch screen it is way more convenient than mixing on CDJ's as you can travel and be a "mobile DJ" without the need of any hardware (external controller or mixer) plus you don't need to carry all your CD's.

Are you curious on how can you start DJing, but don't have money for DJ equipment?

GOOD NEWS... You can DJ on touch screen, without a DJ controller or other hardware, except for a little USB sound card to be able to monitor the sound in the headphones. Let's see how:

If you want to mix music directly on a touch screen, then firstly, you need to have a Windows touch screen laptop, tablet or touch monitor and second of all you need to have a software with multi-touch capabilities...

Such a software is Virtual DJ and you can download and use it for free in windows 10 and 11.

So, if you mix music directly on touch screen, then you will not need an external mixer, and that means that you don't need to buy any license for the Virtual DJ software if you don't use a DJ controller... and so you can use it for free for personal use.

And so because Virtual DJ default interface, was not designed for touch screen mixing, then, all you need is an additional interface as a plug in, just like the ones I have designed for touch screen mixing, in order to mix directly on touch screen.

This is a 4 channel multi-touch skin that is simple to use and very handy. It is horizontally split. The jogs are upfront and the effects and sliders down. On the bottom side are the interchangeable panels for specific tasks. It has the resolution 1366x768.

VDJ Multi-touch 8.4

This is a 4 channel multi-touch skin that is similar to the modern digital mixers. It is more intuitive and creative skin. It looks well organized and is nicely split in panels making a good mixing experience. The original design of the vu-meters and the large cover jogs are the visual plus of this skin mixer. It has the resolution 1366x768.

VDJ Multi-touch 8.6

This is a 4 channel multi-touch skin that is similar to the modern digital mixers. It is more intuitive and creative skin. It is pretty much similar to the one above with just few modifications (the main difference is that this one does not have stem panels). It has the resolution 1366x768.

This is a 2 channel double deck cassette skin that is created specially for the ones who like to play music in "old style". It has stem panel, cues, loops, effects... all interchangeable in that tiny vu-meter panel. Also it has a nice feature of mixing with 3 different speeds. A new feature is the built-in 10 band equalizer with spectrum (needs the download of the EQ10 plug in - available for free from the settings). It has the resolution 1366x768.

This is a 4 channel multi-touch skin that is a little more complicated. It has a lot of features and needs more practice and skills for mixing . This skin is very complex been able to cover many tasks that even professional mixers can't doe.

It has the resolution 1366x768.

VDJ Turn Touch I

This is a 2 channel HD multi-touch skin that is well organized having the play list split in 2, half on left and half on right (that's something new). It has a lot of features as well and needs more practice and skills for mixing. I have tried to put everything is needed in a single map without needing to open extra panels and that is great for clean mixes.

It has HD resolution 1920x1080.

VDJ Turn Touch II

This is a 2 channel HD multi-touch skin that is well organized having the play list split in 2, half on left and half on right (that's something new). I also added a built in 20 band led spectrum and 10 band equalizer (need to be installed from extensions section from the software settings- it is free ). It has a lot of features as well and needs more practice and skills for mixing. This version has separate panels for audio and video.
