Artlab

ARTlab is an interactive gallery space for all ages. Explore the main themes and ideas found in our current exhibitions through making, sharing, and personal connections. ARTlab has been converted to a “no touch” space. Visitors can access all virtual ARTlab activities here. All current murals were created by local artist, Aimee Bruce.

Food for Thought

As a culture obsessed with consumption, the art of eating is sometimes overlooked. Food provides us both the pleasure of eating and necessary nutrition, but we don't often stop to appreciate it. Several artists in Nourish encourage us to consider more mindful eating practices.

Use our template to make a placemat for mealtime doodles and discoveries. Thoughtful and artistic prompts will help you notice and appreciate the beauty of the food on your plate.

Bite Sized Ballads

American Appetite depicts both prosperity and hardship across our nation's history. Some works of art recall moments of celebration, while others are critical and demand justice. Poetry can help us empathize with these varied experiences.

Tell the story of an artwork from American Appetite with a ballad. A ballad is a narrative poem that tells a story in short stanzas. Use the instructions to complete this activity at home.

Response Wall: Food & Memory

Food memories are powerful. They involve all five senses and often bring feelings of nostalgia. We remember the food, but also the people, place, time, and event. Food connects us. It brings us together, shapes our identity, and creates understanding.

Share a memory that you associate with food. Where were you? Who were you with? What was the occasion? Or perhaps there was no occasion at all. What smells, flavors, and textures do you remember?

Please submit a response through our Google Form. Select responses will be shared on the display wall in ARTlab.
