The website was created in an education class in the spring of 2019 and was produced to enhance my ability to create online materials as well as a great addition to my portfolio. Wix is a website I created to emphasize different facets of my classroom that I intend to implement with future students. Students and their families can use the website to stay updated on classroom information. For example, the website includes an introduction to myself to make families feel at ease knowing information about their child's teacher. It also includes my contact information so that families can easily reach out to me if they have any questions or concerns. My website includes personal goals and a mission statement in the hopes of creating an enriching, positive, and inviting classroom environment in which students can flourish to the best of their abilities. It also contains classroom rules, expectations, rewards, and consequences. Classroom procedures, instructional styles, and instructional strategies are also available on my website. Furthermore, the website discusses how I intend to embrace diversity in my classroom, welcoming and embracing students from all backgrounds.
Connection to the IPTS standard
This artifact, specifically the two tabs described above, portrays Illinois Professional Teaching Standard 4G, "knows strategies to implement behavior management and behavior intervention planning to ensure a safe and productive learning environment." This was an excellent model for me, as it demonstrated how to create a positive, hardworking learning environment in my future classroom. This website demonstrates my comprehension of this standard.
Description of What was Learned
I learned how to use the website through wix.com, by creating this website. This is a technological tool that I hope to use one day to create a classroom website for my future students and families. After writing about it, I was able to assess management and motivation styles and determine how I wanted my future classroom to look. This is significant because I now have a wider range of procedures and behavior management systems to choose from when designing my future classroom.
Artifact
There are so many different types of classroom management tools. Each type works differently from one group of students to the next. This token board was created for higher elementary students to encourage behaviors that are desirable and keep everyone safe. When a student is caught doing great work and following the intended expectations, they will get a token. These tokens are different characters of their like. Each student who earned a token would place the piece where they could to get 4 in a row. The person tokens will have the chance to choose the reward of their choice. These rewards could be free time, playing a game as a class, a dress-down day, or iPad, teachers chair, skip morning homework.
Connection to the IPTS standard
By utilizing this behavior management system, the students are able to "understand rules regarding the behavior interventions that lead to a safe and productive learning environment" as mentioned in 4F and 4G. This visual representation will encourage students to work together to achieve more together.
Description of What was Learned
This token system has taught me the importance of a visual aid that does not include student names or initials. By removing these, students feel more included in the reward, which promotes positive behavior. This encourages students to focus on the positives rather than the negatives.
