Beginning in middle school, I decided the career that I wanted to pursue would in some form of engineering, and the two I am in between right now are aerospace or computer engineering. These engineering field interest me from a combination of factors, such as the fact that both my parents are engineers; and especially my dad since he is an aerospace engineer himself. Another factor is my love of planes and rockets. I have always been fascinated with learning how they work and are designed. Ever since then, I’ve dreamed of one day being able to build my own aircraft and seeing it fly. I've also gained interest in the computer engineering field recently due to my growing interest of working on and building computer devices such as desktops, laptops, and consoles. As of now I am undecided as to which career I am going into. While also getting into game development and coding as a whole.
To achieve my goal of becoming an either aerospace or computer engineer, I have enrolled in as many classes as I can that will help build my skills toward either of these goals. To date, I have taken pre-engineering, honors algebra 1 & 2, honors geometry, pre-calc honors, Physics honors, and AP computer science principles. Currently a high school Senior, I am enrolled in AP physics 1, AP Calculus AB, and am now starting my second year in the engineering program at the James A. Forrest Career and Technology Center (JFCTC). As I am in my senior year, I am now looking forward to college and I am researching which colleges are best suited for my desired career goals.
I have had many experiences that have taught me valuable lessons in my life. Being a co-founder of the Party Game Club, I learned leadership skills and teamwork, as well as how to choose a goal and stick to it. Even before this experience, I played soccer from 1st grade all the way up thru 8th grade. I eventually stopped after the team I was so lucky to have played with for most of those years broke up; however, playing soccer taught me valuable lessons in how to work well within a team and the importance of communication. I have also taken part in other activities that I feel are preparing me for my future career goal. Like playing Kerbal Space Program (KSP), which is a game all about building rockets and aircraft to complete various goals and missions. Even though this is a ‘game’, I feel that it is giving me a basic understanding of what goes into rocket and airplane design. I’m also a ‘tinkerer’ and enjoy repairing computers, which has given me insight into how they work and how they are used in various ways for different applications. I have participated in state level SkillsUSA competition and won gold in interactive application and game development. where me and a partner worked together on a game called Dungeon Doom, which helped me further improve on my teamwork and coding skills.
Upon graduating from High school, I plan on applying and going to college for 4 years to achieve a degree in either Aerospace or Computer Engineering. I also look forward to getting the “college experience” of meeting new people and making new friends from different parts of the country and maybe even the world. Getting to know their different backgrounds and points of view. One of the things that I look forward to the most is living and exploring a community that is different from the one I grew up in most of my life.
After graduating college, my hope is to have the professional opportunity to contribute significantly to developing new technologies in the given field that choose. Whether that is in aerospace engineering or computer engineering, I feel that my contribution to these fields will help bring these industries further into the 21st century and help bring more and more people together as whole weather it be through physically traveling on a plane or chatting online with a computer.
