Our team is composed of talented researchers and students across departments and colleges of the University of Cincinnati and beyond, intermixing the fields of Psychology, Neuroscience, Computer Science, Mathematics, Optometry, and Engineering.
The ViLoN Lab is lead by Dr. Trenton Wirth.
A Cincinnati native, Trent received his undergraduate degree in Psychology and Philosophy from the University of Cincinnati in 2014.
He completed his doctoral work in the Virtual Environment Navigation Lab at Brown University with Bill Warren in 2021, where he used Virtual Reality and motion capture to study the self-organization of human crowds.Â
Trent left the VENLab to join the Human Movement Neuroscience Lab at Northeastern University as a Post-Doctoral Researcher, lead by Jonathan Samir Matthis. With Jon, Trent co-founded the FreeMoCap Project (https://freemocap.org), and began his journey examining the relationship between eye movements and full body motor control.
Now, Trent is an Assistant Professor Educator and leader of the ViLoN Lab in the Psychology Department at the University of Cincinnati. He teaches courses such as Sensation and Perception, Cognitive Science, and Programming for the Behavioral Sciences.
When he's not working with ViLoNs, Trent is most likely having fun with his family or playing D&D.
Undergraduate Student Researchers are talented and highly motivated students who have dedicated time to research in the ViLoN Lab. They come from diverse backgrounds, and have a variety of goals; whether that is to find work in tech or go to graduate school.
