Submit your audition form or tech application by Dec 2!
Last Updated Nov 5, 2027
Why are we doing this?
To provide a FUN and enriching performing arts opportunity for our Villa students. No experience, resumes, or headshots are required… only a desire to learn and create a joyful expression through theater and music!
Who can play?
CAST - Every auditioning student in grades 4-6 will be cast in the production. (NOTE: We’ll feature all 6th graders in a speaking role of some kind - it may not be a lead.)
CREW - Every student in grades 4-6 who applies to be part of the tech crew will be assigned one or more specific tech roles.
What is required to participate?
CAST - Participating students must attend required auditions/rehearsals, complete their signed student agreement, and provide basic costume elements.
CREW - Participating students must attend required tech meetings and rehearsals, complete their signed student agreement, and provide all-black outfit for performances.
Can my child participate in the cast AND crew? Can they switch if they don’t like what they picked?
No, they need to choose one or the other BEFORE auditions begin by submitting EITHER the audition form or the tech form.
Once the cast list is officially announced, they may not switch.
What is the time commitment for students in the Cast?
Rehearsals typically occur Tuesday-Friday at 7:45am in the circle room, plus some half days (11:30-2) and one Saturday morning. All possible rehearsal dates are on the calendar. Plan on your child needing to attend on all dates listed for their role. We may release some cast or crew members from rehearsals on some dates, based on what scenes need work, but we will not add any new dates.
What is the time commitment for students on the Tech Crew?
Tech crew meetings will occur during rehearsals at 7:45 in or near the circle room, on some half-days from 12-2pm, and during one Saturday morning. However, not all tech roles need to attend all rehearsals. The calendar states which dates are required for ALL TECH and which are only required for SOME TECH. We'll be sure to communicate which roles need to attend those as we go along (including updating the calendar with those details), but if it says ALL TECH or SOME TECH, please plan to have your child be available to attend.
Time commitment by role:
In general, Marketing/Ushers, Concessions, and Ticketing have significantly fewer meetings they need to attend than the rest of the roles, as they are not working backstage or in the booth.
In general, Makeup Tech, Costume Tech, Assistant Stage Manager will have the MOST meetings they need to attend.
Everyone else is somewhere in-between.
Then, during performance week, they’ll need to attend all rehearsals and performances, as described on the schedule, unless otherwise noted on the calendar. (Specifically, Marketing/Ushers, Concessions, and Ticketing do NOT attend the Student Matinee.)
How does my child audition?
This Auditions page has everything you need to know.
How can my child start getting ready for auditions?
Students can begin familiarizing themselves with the songs from the show prior to auditions by visiting our Music and Choreography Files folder.
How can I volunteer to help out?
You can sign up to volunteer when you submit your child’s audition form or by filling out the Contact Form.
What is performance week like?
Performance week (March 1-6, 2027) is JAM PACKED with 4 performances, an E1 preview show, and 2 evening rehearsals. It requires a big commitment from our families, including some evenings and weekends at Third Street Theater in downtown Phoenix. Parents are responsible for providing transportation or coordinating carpools with other families. Please review the calendar to make sure this production will be a good fit for your family, as all of these events are required for all cast and crew members.
Why morning rehearsals instead of afternoon?
Due to rehearsal room availability and after-school enrichment schedules, mornings make the most sense and allow the most kids to participate.
If my child is an understudy, do they need to come to all of their character’s rehearsals?
Yes!
Will you be double-casting roles this year?
Yes, we will likely be double-casting some roles (Different students playing the same role at different performances), but final decisions on which roles will be double-cast will be made during the casting process.
Can I attend the E1 Student Preview or the E2 Student Matinee?
Due to space limitations...
Family members are not invited to attend the E1 Student Preview. 😢
ONLY Parents who are chaperoning an E2 class on the field trip for the E2 Student Matinee may attend that performance.
