Here is all the information you need to know for your child to audition for the Villa Musical! If you’re looking for other general information about the musical, you can check out our FAQ page. If you have questions, please fill out our Contact Form. ONLY students who want to perform on stage need to follow these steps.
Familiarize yourself with the characters you will be auditioning for by reading the Character Descriptions page.
In order to audition, please submit the Audition Form for your child by December 2nd. (This is different from the Early Interest form you may have filled out.)
During the audition workshop, we’ll walk your student through how to do their very best on their audition and do some singing and dancing.
Your student will choose either "I'm Late" or "In a World of My Own" and sing/perform it as the character they are auditioning for. (Even if that character doesn't actually sing that song.) You can find the song tracks with and without guide vocals here. Please note that even if your student is auditioning for a particular role, they may be called back and/or cast in a completely different role.
Once the audition workshops are complete, you’ll film a video of your child singing a 1-minute portion of the audition song of their choice, Students who do not submit an audition video by the deadline will be cast in the ensemble.
No fancy lighting or equipment is required, just a simple phone recording will do (with accompanying music or without). Just make sure…
Your child states name, grade, and character they’re auditioning for
Your child sings about 1 minute of their song
You can clearly see and hear them on the video
They’re in character as they sing!
They’re framed in the shot from about the waist up
(NOTE: If you need help with this, your child can attend one of the “Audition Video Booth” sessions at school.)
Once you’ve recorded your child’s video, submit it to the Audition Video Dropbox (link coming soon) by Monday, December 7 at 5:00pm sharp. (The earlier, the better!!) If your child attended an Audition Video Booth, you can skip this step.
We may invite some students to callback auditions, if we’d like to see them perform again. These will be in-person in the Circle Room on December 9-11. Your child ONLY needs to come to callbacks if we contact you directly. Just because your child doesn’t receive a callback does NOT mean they didn’t get a role - it just means we don’t need to see them a second time. Your child may get called back for a role they did not specifically audition for.
We’ll send all parents/guardians an email with the cast list by Tuesday, December 15th. ALL auditioning students will receive a role in the musical.
We’ll have our first rehearsals on December 16th at 7:45am to hand out scripts, celebrate, and start our readthrough!
