Bibliography: Snow Shite by Germany, Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm Snow White
“Mirror, mirror, on the wall, who in this land is the fairest of all?” I ask my mirror.
“You are, my queen," says my mirror back.
I am so happy to be the fairest in the land. No one is more fair than I. I have an amazing daughter, Snow White. I am the most beautiful in the land. What more could I wish for!
YEARS LATER
Oh my, it is Snow White’s seventh birthday. We must celebrate but first let me make sure I am still the fairest in the land.
“Mirror, mirror, on the wall, who in this land is fairest of all?” I ask my mirror.
The mirror says back, “My queen, you are very fair but Snow White is now the fairest of all.”
“You are lying to me,” I say to my mirror.
And my mirror says back, “I am not. She is now fairer than you.”
I am livid. So livid I just want to break and throw things. How could I not be the fairest of all? I have always been. For years and years. Snow White cannot be the fairest of them all. I will not allow this. I hate her now. I have to do something about this. I have an idea!
I am going to call a Huntsman to take Snow White deep into the woods and kill her. That should do it! And after I will be the fairest of them all again. He is going to take her tonight.
Okay, the Huntsman brought back Snow White's lungs and liver. Now there is proof that she is dead. Let me go ask my mirror so I can hear once again that I am the fairest of them all.
“Mirror, mirror, on the wall, who in this land is fairest of all?”
My mirror replies, “My queen, you are fair, but Snow White is the fairest of all.”
But she is supposed to be dead! The Huntsman has lied to me. Ugh. I must do this myself. I can’t trust anyone. Snow White must die so I will once again be the fairest in all the land. I will start my plan immediately. I will disguise myself to be an old woman and knock on her door later tonight. She will never know it’s me.
I arrive at Snow White’s house and offer to sell her bodice laces. She is letting me inside and I tell her that her dress is not laced up right so she allows me to help. I tie her up so tight that she cannot breathe. How genius of me!
So once again I go home and ask my mirror, “Mirror, mirror, on the wall, who in this land is fairest of all?”
And my mirror says, “My queen, you are fair, but Snow White is still the fairest of all.”
This cannot be real. I will not stop until she is dead. I will go back again tonight.
I disguise myself again and this time bring a poisoned comb. I knock on the door and show the comb. Snow White comes, I put the comb in her hair and she immediately falls to the floor. I know this had to do the trick.
So I ask my mirror, “Mirror, mirror, on the wall, who in this land is fairest of all?”
And my mirror replied again, “My queen, you are fair, but Snow White is still the fairest of all.”
I become infuriated. She must die if it is the last thing I do.
I will disguise myself again and this time I will make a poisoned apple for her to eat and there is no way she will live after this.
I go to her house and feed her the apple. She fall to the floor at the first bite. That has to do the trick.
At last I asked my mirror, “Mirror, mirror, on the wall, who in this land is fairest of all?”
And my mirror replied, “My queen, you are once again the fairest of all!”
This is the best day of my life! I am once again the fairest of all and the happiest woman in all the land.
YEARS LATER
I am invited to the royal wedding in my neighboring town. I shall go to see who the new queen will be.
Its the day of the wedding. I ask my mirror, “Mirror, mirror, on the wall, who in this land is fairest of all?”
My mirror replies, "My queen, you are fair, but the new queen is much more fair than you.”
This cannot be true. I must go to the wedding.
The new queen is Snow White. How can this be true? I killed her. I will dance tonight until I die.
Pictured here is Snow White with the prince once he has saved her from being poisoned.
Author's Note:
This story is taken from the original version of Snow White written by the Brothers Grimm. I chose to tell this story from the perspective of the evil queen. The whole story is the same for the most part expect for the perspective taken in the story. The plot, characters, and sequence all follow along with the original story. Snow White is the queen's daughter and she does end up being more fair than the queen as she grows older. The queen gets extremely jealous and does all she can to try to kill her daughter, Snow White. Her jealousy is so bad that she tries to kill her own daughter to once again be the fairest of them all. She tries to kill her multiple times and each time Snow White ends up being saved by the seven dwarfs she is living with. The seven dwarfs are who she moves in with when she was left in the woods. The last time the queen tries to kill her she is actually dead when the dwarfs come home from work. She is put in a casket and is asleep for some time until she is woken by the prince. The true love's kiss is the only thing that could wake her from her sleep and the prince came and kissed her to wake her up.
