Visit LyngSat.com to locate the satellite covering your target region. Review the available broadcasts, then note the transponder's frequency, polarization, and symbol rate. You will enter these values into your satellite receiver to help acquire and lock onto the satellite signal.
Geostationary Satellite: A satellite that appears to remain in a fixed location above the earth's surface. Note the altitude these satellites orbit above the earth's surface- over 22,000 miles. Compare this to the International Space Station: 260 miles.
Transponder: Each Satellite has many transponders which in turn carry numerous channels. From the LyngSat.com website you will record the Frequency, Symbol Rate and Polarization of the Transponder you want to connect to. Your receiver will let you select the channel you want once you are locked on to your target satellite/transponder.

Whenever possible, transport your satellite dish in disassembled pieces while keeping the dish itself intact. However, if the dish must fit into a smaller, more manageable package, it can be carefully divided/cut/chopped into sections and later reassembled.
The following steps explain how to begin converting a standard satellite dish into a compact, portable dish for transport and field use.
If you do not need to cut the dish into wedges, skip to STEP 10 to see how to set up your dish for Free-To-Air Broadcast reception.
STEP 1: Remove Proprietary LNB and Dish Support Structure
STEP 2: Mark the cut lines on the dish, dividing it into wedge-shaped sections for later cutting.
STEP 3 - Mark the holes in the centers of the 60° wedge outlines.
STEP 4: The 2 washers being drilled out in this video will be placed on each side of the dish at its center. #8 machine screws and nuts will secure the two washers together, sandwiching the still-uncut and yet-to-be-drilled wedge sections between them. The washers will hold the wedges together at the center once the dish is cut and drilled.
STEP 5 - Transfer hole pattern on washers to center of dish
STEP 6 - Drill 1/4" holes into rim of Dish at the point of each wedge boundary. There will be 6.
