microSD Language Cards &  Smart Phones

Older Phone? ... You Still Have Options

If your phone cannot read the Language microSD Card through a USB card reader and it does not have a microSD card slot, don't worry. There are still several ways to access the Language Card.  

Possible Solutions:

 1. Check for a microSD card slot.

If a tray exists on your phone, use the tray removal pin or a small paperclip (not a needle) and remove the SIM tray. Some older Smart Phones have a shared (Hybrid) SIM/microSD tray and you can temporarily replace the SIM card with the Langauge microSD card and pre-load/copy files onto your phone for later sharing and viewing purposes. (This does not apply to phones that have a SIM-only tray)

2. Your phone may have a dedicated microSD slot.

Some older Smart Phones have separate locations for the SIM card(s) and the microSD card. Depending of the phone, these may be located on an external tray or inside the phone under the removable back cover.

3. Your phone may not support USB OTG.

Some older Android phones do not support USB OTG (On-The-Go), which is the ability of the phone to act as a USB host and read a USB card reader as external storage. 

If your phone:

• does not support USB OTG,

• does not have a microSD card slot,

• or cannot read the Language Card

then consider one of these alternatives:

• Connect to the VillageServer (Raspberry Pi WiFi Hotspot)

• Copy the files using a computer (the computer as a bridge)

  • • Insert the Language Card into the computer (using a built-in slot or USB card reader)

    • Connect the phone to the computer with a USB cable

    • Copy the desired files from the Language Card to the phone's internal storage or SD card

• Use another SmartPhone that supports USB OTG or has a microSD card slot.
