LazerLock was originaly the result of a 48 hour game jam and our entry into the 34th edition of Ludum Dare. The two themes we had to work with were growing and two button controls. After a long night of brainstorming we decided to go with a combination of the two themes with a bit of a twist. What we ended up with was a team based action game where players hade to cooperate with their teammate in order to shrink the other team into non-existence.

Since the jam, the game is currently in production as a hobby project and we're hoping to be able to release it sometime in the future. We have continued refining the concept, adding more features to improve the gameplay. Now instead of just shrinking your opponents, you also need to eat them while they are shrunk to be able to win. If a player gets shrunk but manages to stay alive for a certain amount of time, they will actually grow big again.
This gives the game more dynamics as the goal of the game shifts more often than before. At the start of the game both teams have the same goal, shrink a member (or both) of the other team. When either is sucessfull the goal is slightly altered for both sides. Either stay alive long enough to grow big, or eat the shrunken player to score a point. We have also added a dash-ability, which gives the player a short temporary speed boost when used. Both these new mechanics help to make the games rounds a bit longer as well as adding tension and pace to the game.
Below is a video of us playtesting the prototype with some friends. As you can see by our reactions the game is pretty intense, and with that we hope to cause some good old friendly rivalry between players.
