We, the undersigned, support Victori'us Arts and its efforts to foster informed civic engagement, encourage constructive dialogue, and ensure that arts and culture have a meaningful place in conversations about the future of our communities.

  Victori'us Arts (VUA) is a volunteer-led, non-partisan civic arts initiative rooted in Greater Victoria's arts and culture ecosystem. Through its work, VUA seeks to connect people, share information, encourage dialogue, and help identify opportunities to strengthen the conditions that allow arts and culture to thrive.

A Sector with Many Voices

  We do not all share identical views on every issue facing our communities, nor do we need to.

  The arts and culture sector encompasses a wide range of disciplines, practices, organizations, businesses, spaces and perspectives. While individual needs and priorities may differ, many of the systems, policies and conditions that shape the sector are shared.

  Municipal decisions related to cultural space, land use, infrastructure, economic development, community amenities and long-term planning all influence the ability of arts and culture to thrive.

  We believe that artists, arts organizations, cultural workers, businesses, community members and civic leaders all have a role to play in identifying opportunities, addressing challenges and strengthening the conditions that support a healthy and resilient arts ecosystem.

Why We Are Putting This Forward

  VUA is not claiming to speak on behalf of everyone in Greater Victoria. Our questions, statements, and priorities do not claim to represent every artist, arts organization, resident or community member in the region. Rather, they reflect issues and opportunities identified through VUA's work, experience and engagement within the arts and culture community.

  We believe there is value in bringing those perspectives into the municipal conversation—and in making it easier for people to understand how local decisions may affect the cultural life of our communities.

  The *2026 municipal election provides an opportunity for residents and candidates to engage in that conversation. VUA supports efforts to make that engagement more accessible, informed and constructive.

  Signing this statement is an expression of support for meaningful, informed and respectful civic dialogue about arts and culture and the conditions that affect them. It is not an endorsement of any political party, candidate, coalition, organization, or position beyond the principles expressed here.
