Victoria Williamson
PhD Student in Astrophysics
Rutgers University
I am a PhD Student in the department of Physics & Astronomy at Rutgers University, advised by Prof. Blakesley Burkhart. My research focuses on turbulence in the interstellar and circumgalactic mediums, using both observational data and simulations. As a member of the Simons Initiative on the Geometry of Flows, my current work looks at how physical flows determine the geometry of mesoscale structures. Broadly, I am interested in how the interaction of gas and dust in high-energy environments, such as galaxy mergers and cloud filaments, influences star formation and galaxy evolution.Â
Originally from South Florida, I obtained a B.S. in Astrophysics from the University of Florida, with a minor in Mathematics. With Prof. Zachary Slepian, I used higher-order statistics to investigate turbulence in the interstellar medium within magnetohydrodynamic simulations.
