When planning for comprehension instruction connected to our anchor text, White Bird by R.J. Palacio, we decided to focus on Character Development.

Throughout the novel, various characters are changing based on the historical event going on during the time of the story. We believed that this would be a great comprehension goal to follow when planning comprehension instruction.

With the guidance of Jennifer Serravallo's book The Reading Strategies Book: Your Everything Guide to Developing Skilled Readers, we were able to develop comprehension skills focus and strategies that follow the assigned skill.
