This movement was started in the summer of 2019 by 10 Jewish individuals across the country, who were astonished to witness what was happening at our borders. To them, it seemed all too similar to what had happened to their ancestors during the Holocaust. They decided that they could make a difference, so they have put together protests all across the country at various ICE Detainee centers and continue to do so today, gaining much support.

One of the major groups who are working to oppose ICE and the detainment of immigrants at the border, identify as part of the Jewish community. In their fight, they are comparing the events happening today to what happened during the Holocaust. At the end of White Bird, we see this movement highlighted to bring light to this issue.

More on the measures the #Neveragain Action Movement is taking today.
The #Neveragain action movement is using the 'language of the Holocaust to shame the Trump administration’s policies towards undocumented immigrants and asylum seekers'.
The #NeverAgain action movement is something that is happening here and now in our country. These are people who see something that they feel too closely resemebles the atrocities their ancestors faced during WWII, and unlike those that came before them, they have the power to speak up and make a difference. If we are teaching about the past, we need to also teach what is currently happening in the world, making those connections so that our students can see how history has the ability to repeat itself. Not only that, but it is important for students to know that if they see something unjust, they have the power to stand up for what they believe in and make a difference.
