Vicky is a music teacher from Cocoa Beach, FL. She has been teaching since 2008, in Central Florida, Southwest Virginia/East Tennessee, and the Greater D.C. Metropolitan area. She studied music therapy at the graduate level through Radford University, and general music, with coursework in education, religious studies, and vocal training at the undergraduate level through the University of Central Florida, Orlando. At UCF she studied with Dr. Jeremy Hunt and Kimberly Saunders Randall, and her past voice teachers include Jason Reichman and Young Ju Lee, both FSU alumni.
She started her music career with piano 20 years ago under the wing of Diana Ryder, and from there her love for music grew. Growing up, she listened to a variety of music, classical, musical theatre, Disney, pop, and Vietnamese folk and pop music. Ms. Ryder exposed her to a plethora of new genres and from there she developed her own style. She enjoys piano pieces from almost all genres, and vocally, her styles span musical theatre, opera, pop, country, and on occasion touches on jazz. She has performed in many ensembles on different instruments, including vocal, piano, guitar, and percussion. She has made the effort to learn as much as she possibly can about music, the different ways to play, to sing, while still keeping true to her own style. She hopes that her students have that same drive and be open to learning all sorts of music!
Currently, she teaches in the DC Metro area (Northern Virginia, Maryland, and Washington D.C.), and is a member of the Springfield Music Club, and the Northern Virginia Music Teacher's Association, both located in Northern Virginia.
Artemis is the studio assistant. Her role is to alert student and package arrivals, and greet students and families at the door. She also entertains parents while they are waiting during their child's lesson. Artemis loves meeting new people, kids especially! She loves listening to music and her favorite piece is Erik Satie's Gymnopedie No. 1.
Please note that if you are attending lessons in Vicky's home studio, Artemis will be present.
