Values in Crisis (VIC) East Asia

The project aims to answer several research questions about human values and consequent behaviors under and after the progress of COVID-19. How does the pandemic impact people’s values? How massive is the impact and in what direction do the values change? How enduring are these changes? Do people’s moral values revert back to their old set-point or does the crisis leave a lasting impact? Does the degree of impact depend upon a culture’s pre-COVID characteristics? Finally, are all individuals equally affected by the pandemic or certain sociodemographic and personality traits moderate the impact? We seek to understand cultural patterns of value changes in East Asia, in comparison with the rest of the world and through comparisons within different Asian societies.
