Long Term Care Family Council Meeting
Tuesday, May 3, 2022, 7 p.m.
MINUTES
The meeting was brought to order at 7:05 p.m. by the Chair. He welcomed all attendees and Joanne, recreation coordinator at Wadsworth.
Joanne agreed to attend our meeting and to provide the council with updates and information pertaining to the activities of the Recreation department.
She shared the following with us:
The home was not planning any trips in May using the bus since the new driver had just received her license and needed to get familiar driving the bus.
For June the home is bringing in “hands on exotic” program which consists of different animal groups. The home has selected the “Furry package” Which we understand includes rabbits.
Pet therapy was offered with Percy the dog in Wadsworth
Still, all entertainments are restricted to the neighbourhoods
Dental service resumed, but only for basic procedures such as cleaning etc.
The recreation department is also looking for any suggestions the council and family member can offer regarding specific activities that could be incorporated into their program.
Questions were raised regarding any religious services. It was mentioned that catholic service is offered the 15th and 29th of each month. Also Chaplain Kirk conducts prayer sessions in the neighbourhoods.
She also mentioned that Hymn singing is offered at a Sunday morning service which is streamed from the internet.
There is an exercise program at Alderwood conducted by students twice a week. Residents are verbally invited.
There is also a dance exercise program at Alderwood using Sumba, Tia-Chi and Yoga routines
This program is promoted through the bulletin board in each neighbourhood. The recreation department will provide a schedule on request
A mentioning was made of the COVID outbreak in April and how much the council appreciated the precaution and procedure the home put in place to control this outbreak.
