Obelisks on the Meuse

Two bamboo obelisks have risen on the Dutch and Flemish sides of the Meuse near Ophoven. Last Saturday, twenty builders from the Geistingen and Kessenich (B) theater associations worked pleasantly and together to build two bamboo obelisks, which are part of the first cross-border theater cycle tour ÄÖVERDEPÄÖL Crossing Borders of the 32nd LMBG FSTVL. The Belgian and Dutch banks of the Meuse are currently marked by two beautiful bamboo obelisks. On Saturday one of the obelisks was sailed from restaurant De Spaenjerd in Ophoven to the other side of Ohé en Laak (Maasgouw) with a pontoon from Rederij Stiphout.

The builders were busy on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. to lift the two art objects into the air, led by the Dutch artist Antoon Versteegde. They were regularly helped by passers-by. The obelisks are made up of bamboo sticks and hundreds of elastic bands! They will remain for about a week, as a symbol of connection and brotherhood between the Limburgers from both countries.

The obelisks are a contribution to the 32nd LMBG FSTVL by Mater Mosa, the international Meuse Biennale that will take place in 2015 for the first time in the Meuse basin. Obelisken aan de Maas

Twee bamboe-obelisken herrezen aan Nederlandse en Vlaamse zijde van de Maas bij Ophoven. Afgelopen zaterdag werd plezierig en in saamhorigheid gewerkt door een twintigtal bouwers van de toneelverenigingen van Geistingen en Kessenich (B) om twee bamboe obelisken op te bouwen, die onderdeel vormen van de eerste grensoverschrijdende theaterfietstocht ÄÖVERDEPÄÖL Crossing Borders van het 32ste LMBG FSTVL. De Belgische en de Nederlandse oevers van de Maas worden momenteel gemarkeerd door twee prachtige bamboe obelisken. Met een ponton van Rederij Stiphout werd zaterdag een van de obelisken vanuit restaurant De Spaenjerd in Ophoven naar de overkant van Ohé en Laak (Maasgouw) gevaren.

De bouwers waren zaterdag van 11 tot 18 in touw om onder leiding van de Nederlandse kunstenaar Antoon Versteegde de twee kunstobjecten de lucht in te hijsen. Zij werden regelmatig geholpen door voorbijgangers. De obelisken zijn opgebouwd uit bamboestokken en honderden elastieken! Ze blijven ongeveer een week staan, als symbool van verbinding en broederschap tussen de Limburgers uit beide landen.

De obelisken zijn een bijdrage aan het 32ste LMBG FSTVL door Mater Mosa, de internationale Maasbiënnale die in 2015 voor het eerst plaatsvindt in het stroomgebied van de Maas.
