Nobody fares well without illusions

The 30 and 40 meter high towers that Antoon Versteegde previously built with students from the TUe had no functionality whatsoever, the bamboo sticks were far too light for that. But what if you make such a vertical tower horizontal, cover it with foil and fill it with helium or hydrogen gas? That is how the dream arose to build a Zeppelin of 100 meters in length with which, for example, refugees could travel comfortably. You do not need any permits and everyone hopes that you will fly to the next country. But when you arrive at your destination, you can land safely, dismantle the Zeppelin and reuse the material to build tents.

Zonder illusies vaart niemand wel

De 30 en 40 meter hoge torens die Antoon Versteegde eerder bouwde met studenten van de TUe hadden geen enkele functionaliteit, daarvoor waren de bamboestokken veel te licht. Maar als je zo'n vertikale toren nou ens horizontaal maakt, omkleed met folie en vult met helium of waterstofgas? Zo ontstond de droom om een Zeppelin te bouwen van 100 meter lengte waarmee bijvoorbeeld vluchtelingen op comfortabele wijze zouden kunnen reizen. Je hebt geen vergunningen nodig en overal hoopt men dat je doorvliegt naar het volgende land. Maar op de plek van bestemming aangekomen, kun je veilig landen, de Zeppelin ontmantelen en het materiaal hergebruiken voor de bouw van tenten.
