Verona Summer Music does not provide instruments except in piano classes.
We recommend Music and Arts for instrument rental needs. They've been providing us with quality instruments for many years and have an online rental process that ensures accuracy.
If you prefer to compare options, we suggest The Music Shop in Boonton. Alternatively, you can of course find your own vendor.
It is highly recommended to visit your vendor to pick up the instrument yourself. You may also ask them to ship it directly to your home. With Music & Arts, you can complete the rental process online and schedule a pickup time at a location like Livingston.
Should you choose to purchase an instrument, please purchase a quality brand. The allure of a low cost instrument from Amazon or Costco is understandable, but those instruments are very poor quality. They will not play as easily, giving your child a disadvantage, and will have more repair issues than it’s worth. Some name brands you can look for are Yamaha, Jupiter, Selmer, Conn, Holton, Bach.
If you’re borrowing an instrument from someone, take it to a reputable repair shop for servicing. This simple step can save you and your child a lot of frustration and inconvenience when the instrument malfunctions. Even if “Aunt Millie” can produce a sound, it doesn’t mean the instrument is functioning properly. Regular servicing is essential for all instruments to maintain optimal performance.
RENTAL LINK for MUSIC and ARTS
BEGINNER BAND CHOICES - Flute, Clarinet, Alto Saxophone, Trumpet, Trombone, Baritone (3/4 size), Percussion
PERCUSSION STUDENTS - You should get what Music and Arts calls a Percussion Learning Kit. This contains a snare drum, practice pad, sticks, mallets, and bells.
GUITAR/BASS GUITAR - Since no vendor rents guitars, you'll need to either borrow or purchase one. Acoustic guitars don’t require an amplifier to be heard. Electric guitars can be played without an amp, but your child won’t hear it very well.
I recommend starting with an acoustic guitar and transitioning to an electric one later. If your child chooses an electric guitar, they don’t need to bring the amplifier to VSM; they only need their cable to connect to our system.
Here are some links to beginner guitars we recommend. Yamaha is known for producing high-quality instruments for all skill levels.
If you choose an electric guitar, you will also need an amplifier and guitar cable.
