As one of the very few women in fundamental science, I believe outreach events for the public and presentations in scientific events will greatly contribute to eliminating the all-male-scientist stereotype and inspire young girls to seek a career in science. This is a crucial step in achieving gender equality and empowering women. I take an active part in public engagement events and give frequent seminars in national and international conferences as is evident from my portfolio.
Within the last ten years, I have benefited from mobility within the EU and beyond by being exposed to different environments and approaches to tackling diversity issues in science and industry. As a female physicist from a third world country, I am well aware of the obstacles women and minorities face when seeking a career in academia. I am an advocate for unbiased employment and passionate about sharing my experience and knowledge in navigating one’s way through academia.
I have always promoted equality and inclusivity in my teaching, research and administration. With science as my weapon of peace, I have vowed to empower women and other under-represented groups to grow to their full potential in science. By identifying structural biases in academia, I have been fighting for equality and standing up to inequality and discrimination. With the quote “If you are neutral in situations of injustice, you have chosen the side of the oppressor” as my motto, I have pledged to support, develop and strengthen access for all minorities to fully participate in and become leaders in science. Through public talks and active membership of several committees I provide education on equality and promote well-being, equality and diversity.
