M.Tech Dissertation: Web based water utility management using geospatial techniques – A case study of Dehradun city, India.
Geographic information systems (GIS) plays a prominent role in water utility management like the asset creation and management, infrastructure capital improvement etc. The research aims to design the water utility model, creation of geospatial water utility database from various sources such as remote sensing data, DGPS surveys, utility surveys, scanned maps, CAD files etc. The existing water supply system of Dehradun was analyzed at both city and ward level with the help of GIS and geospatial water utility database. A risk analysis was carried out for the overhead tank (OHT) asset in the water utility network. Analytical hierarchical process (AHP) based multi criteria decision making (MCDM) was used in risk analysis.
A water information system (WIS) was created with the help of free and open source software (FOSS) to visualize and to edit (WFS service) the water utility database at the city and zonal level. PostGIS was used for hosting the geospatial database and Asp.Net server side scripting language, C# command language was used for designing and creating the web portal.
B.Tech dissertation: Application of GIS techniques in urban solid waste management - A case study of Ongole town, A.P, India.
Urban solid waste management is considered as one of the most serious environmental problems confronting municipal authorities in developing countries. Presently, most of the municipal solid waste in India is being disposed unscientifically. In the present study, the research work is organised in two modules. First module aims at identifying suitable sites for solid waste disposal at a city level using multi-criteria decision making approach. Second module aims at optimal transport route identification at a ward level using Dijkstra's algorithm. Ongole municipality, Andhra Pradesh (AP) is selected as a test site for the research. An extensive ground survey is conducted to generate the soild waste geospatial database for Ongole city and demand supply gap analysis for solid waste collection is also carried out. The results of the research are shown below
