Project Update #1: March 4, 2022
As of today’s date, March 04, 2022, the project is currently sitting at an SPI value of 1.000 and a CPI value of 0.9892. The project is on schedule (SPI = 1.000) and all required tasks have been completed up until this point (for current tasks the team is working on please refer to Figure 1. in the document on the right). The project is slightly over budget (CPI = 0.9892) mainly because of an issue with material availability for the main cutting blade. In terms of tasks completed up to this point, please refer to the full Gantt Chart for a more detailed overview of specific tasks. As a general update, the team created a Google Site for the project, all part modelling and drawings were completed, all components needed for prototyping were either machined or purchased and prototype was assembled. As stated above, the team encountered an issue with the supplier of the cutting blade as there was a shortage in steel which resulted in costing the team an extra day of work while the cutting blade was behind schedule.
Project Update #2: March 18, 2022
As of today's date, March 18, 2022, the project is currently sitting at an SPI value of 0.6445 and a CPI value of 0.9579. The project is behind schedule by about 20%, initial planning had the project at about 60% completion at the current point in time, but the project is currently sitting at just below 40%. The team encountered an issue with the design files becoming corrupt after working on them at the school and had to re-draw the components from the start, drastically slowing down prototyping and final designs. As a result of the corrupt files, the project is still slightly over budget (CPI = 0.9579) and may become further over budget once the necessary tasks are completed behind schedule and added time to the delay in prototyping. Despite the setbacks, the team was able to complete a final design (see Figure 1. in the document to the right), a final Bill of Materials, and the Design Evaluation is complete. Project Update #3: April 01, 2022
s of today’s date, April 01, 2022, the project is currently sitting at an SPI value of 0.8430 and a CPI value of 1.0175. After the last update the team was able to make up some time on various tasks, however the project is still slightly behind schedule (SPI = 0.8430) by approximately 10%. In terms of technical deliverables, all documents have been delivered (i.e. Process Planning) and are posted the to Veggie Blaster website. What remains for the technical deliverables portion of the project are most tasks relating to having a functioning and complete device. At its current state, the project is slightly under budget (CPI = 1.0175) and costs were kept low for the completed tasks from the last update until the current point in time. The team did encounter an issue with material for the cutting deck (Part #: VEG – 01CD) for prototyping, the material supplier was only able to provide an aluminum plate of 0.250” thick when the design called for a plate of 0.500” thick. Some time was lost in minor design adjustments to accommodate for the new plate thickness. This issue will be resolved for the final product but for the time being, the 0.250” plate was used for proof of concept and simulation of movement purposes.
