The University of Texas at Dallas is a research-focused university with 30,000+ students on a sprawling, modern campus in North Texas. The students who have applied to be part of this virtual exchange are members of a Living Learning Community and business majors. This is a fairly elite group. The students are a small part of the much larger 1,000+ student freshmen class that has entered our business school, the Naveen Jindal School of Management, this year. Most of these students attended part of high school online. While some worked during high school, overall they had fewer opportunities to work, travel or volunteer than students in the past.
These business students live together in the same residence hall and take two classes together their first semester. Most of these freshmen attended high school in Texas.

Virtual Exchange, Fall 2022, Timeline
Week 1: Begins September 5, 2022 (Labor Day Holiday) – Students learn about the Virtual Exchange (VE) opportunity this week (after Labor Day) and apply before Friday, September 9, 2022 at 9:00 am. Students are selected and groups of three formed by the instructor that day.
Note: Students do the Comets to the Core (CttC) presentation with your group of three AND do the assignments for the VE. You will not need to include a polished memo report in your Final Portfolio if you are selected for this opportunity.
Contact Information: Teachers collect email and telephone numbers for students to communicate easily. You need to release communication details in order to participate.
Groups of Six: Teachers create groups (3 American students + 3 French students) and make a general check regarding internet connections, willingness to accommodate the time difference and access to communication.
Time Difference: Your group will meet with the French students three times (and you will need to schedule this next week, so all six students can attend). There is a seven hour time difference. Please note the best hours for meeting with the French students.
Professionalism & Courtesy: Be prompt, courteous and thoughtful. Meet all deadlines.
Final Meeting: You will need to agree to the final group meeting Tuesday, December 6, 2022 at 10:30 am North Texas time (5:30 pm French time) in order to be included in this virtual exchange. Please check your schedule before applying.
Weeks 2 & 3: Create your introductory video for the French students as a group of three and post to Padlet. The final deadline to post is September 25, 2022.
Upload: Students upload their introductory videos to Padlet
Google site: All the resources will be on the Google site
Week 3: September 26, 2022
Review Padlet videos & coordinate with French students to set up the three meetings (if you have not done so already). Meeting #1 should be this week. Remember to take screenshots of your meetings (online) for use in your final videos. You can also share pictures, videos, etc.
Meeting #1: Week of September 26, 2022: "Breaking the ice" activities, "getting to know you" activities
Meeting #2: Week of October 3, 2022: Talking about transport in Texas vs France + other countries (Polyvia Formation internships feedback)
Which countries have the most sustainable means of transport?
Would you be willing to change your habits to travel more sustainably (cycle or walk to work/University instead of driving).
Has the internet facilitated sustainable transport (Blabla car in France for example) or made it worse (low-cost air travel)?
Which websites do you use for transport?

How many planets are needed for your lifestyle? When is your overshoot date ? and compared to the rest of the group?
Meeting #3: Week of October 10, 2022: General discussion and conclusion (Please share pictures or links with each other for situations or experiences you have discussed.)
Week of October 17, 2022
Students upload conclusion videos on Padlet. For the U.S. students, this is a contrast between your expectations before the virtual exchange and your realizations after the introduction video and three meetings. Samples from your video and the information that you use to create the video should be included in your final portfolio.
