First you need to install the driver package off the CD and then plug in the USB cable and have windows go through its hardware discovery and driver install before you plug it into the car and lauch VCDS.

I then fired up my old desktop, with windows XP, and vag com ran ok, but still couldn't see the cable. Is there a driver somewhere on 'tinternet I can download?? I am going to search once I've posted this, but any directions would be appreciated!!.

All you have to do is enter the CAR MENU and select the WINDOW Control MENU. It will give you the option to have the front windows on/off, rear on/off, and the sunroof on/off. You can choose the settings that suit your needs and enjoy controlling your windows with your key fob.

Just saw this thread. I was very confused why I could only close my windows, but could open/close moonroof after changing the VAG-COM setting. This cleared it all up. I now have full control of my windows with the remote!

Below right is a demo on a Golf TDI. You can open the sunroof with the remote in the sportwagen (or set it soonly the windows open) but you can't open the sunroof in the Golf using theremote. Note - if you hold unlock to just crack open the windows a little bit, alldoors will relock if the driver's side door is not opened within 30 seconds. (Obviously, if the windows are wide open thereisn't much point in locking the car!) This feature is to prevent accidental unlocking of the car. It's nicebecause you don't have to press the lock button to lock the car after using theremote to open the windows. Some models may have a box "Comfort Operation Adaptation blocked". Make sure it's not checked. It might look like this. Note - thecheckbox for Bit 5 will blink the turn signals when you use comfort operation(use the remote to close the windows). You can shut it off here. Thebelow screen is from a 2010 Jetta.
