`Abdu'l-Bah, Bah'u'llh's son, further explains that the New Jerusalem which descends from heaven is not an actual city which is renewed, but the law of God since it descends from heaven through a new revelation and it is renewed.[33]Shoghi Effendi, head of the religion after the death of `Abdu'l-Bah, stated that specifically Bah'u'llh's book of laws, the Kitb-i-Aqdas, is the new Jerusalem.[34][35] Bah'u'llh, in the Tablet of Carmel, also states that the new Jerusalem had appeared upon the new Mount Zion, Mount Carmel.[31]

The rise of Islam is intrinsically linked with the Prophet Muhammad, believed by Muslims to be the last in a long line of prophets that includes Moses and Jesus. Because Muhammad was the chosen recipient and messenger of the word of God through the divine revelations, Muslims from all walks of life strive to follow his example. After the holy Qur'an, the sayings of the Prophet (hadith) and descriptions of his way of life (sunna) are the most important Muslim texts.

Furthermore, while some may have issue with the New Testament revelation of the Triune God; it is consistent with the character and nature of God as revealed in the Tanakh. Furthermore, the New Testament is in perfect harmony with the personalities, events and timeline of the Tanakh, accepting it in totality as Scripture. This cannot be said of the Koran where the nature of the Muslim god is quite different than that of the God of Israel as presented in both the Tanakh and New Testament (Judeo/Christian Scriptures). In addition, while the Koran references personalities and events in the Judeo/Christian Scriptures, they do not correspond with accounts of those persons and events as told in those Scriptures. Either the Judeo/Christian Scripture is wrong and the Koran is correct or it is the opposite, but they cannot all be valid. Since God does not contradict His word and there is no contradiction between the Tanakh and New Testament, the visions of Mohamed, inconsistent as they are with previous holy writ, cannot be from God. Neither can the god of Islam be the Judeo/Christian God since the character and attributes of the one worshiped within Islam are incompatible with those unveiled by previous revelation.

This non-empirical revelation contains two basic ideas: First, as the context aroundverses 59 and 60 show, Muhammad was undergoing some persecution in Mecca; the polytheistswere asking for a sign of Muhammad’s prophethood. He replies that he is only anordinary man, so he cannot perform them. The only sign Allah gives him is a vision.Second, this revelation parallels the one in 2:144, which permits Muhammad to take overthe Kabah shrine before he actually does. The two passages are mutually supportive. Sura17:1 reads: . . . "whose surroundings We have blessed" . . . . Allah blesses thelocation (Jerusalem, though the Quran never says this), as He will bless Mecca a few yearslater. It should be noted that later tradition says that while in Jerusalem Muhammad wastaken up to the seventh heaven from the Temple Mount, giving the vision extra significancefor Muslims today.

However, even though Muhammad never set foot in Jerusalem in a verifiable way and eventhough the Quran never mentions this city by name, Christians and Jews should respectlater Islamic revelation—respecting is different from agreeing on it—that saysJerusalem is a place of pilgrimage for Muslims. Fulfilling a pledge to take a non-violentpilgrimage to the Jews’ sacred city harms no one materially or politically.

Jews and Christians are specifically protected in the Quran as Peoples of the Book, reinforcing their spiritual connection to Islam by virtue of having been given revelations from God. The Islamic legal tradition has upheld the rights of Jews and Christians to maintain their beliefs and practices within their communities in Islamic lands, and this policy of tolerance has generally been upheld.

The historical record is clear: The Jewish People have lived in Jerusalem since King David purchased the threshing floor on Mount Moriah (now the Temple Mount) 3,000 years ago.
David told the owner of the land,
“‘Give me the site of the threshing floor that I may build on it an altar to the LORD—give it to me at its full price ... I will not take for the LORD what is yours, nor offer burnt offerings that cost me nothing.’ So David paid Ornan 600 shekels of gold by weight for the site.” (1 Chronicles 21:22–25)
Even after the Romans destroyed the second Jewish Temple in AD 70 and scattered the Jewish People into exile, a remnant have lived throughout the Holy Land ever since.
Yet contradictory statements have left many Christians wondering, “Does the Land of Israel belong to the Jews or the Palestinians?”

[caption id="attachment_32988" align="alignnone" width="544"] Today in Israel, the streets are shared by Jews, Christians, Muslims and other religions. The Arab world, however, would like to destroy Israel by flooding it with the approximately five million descendants of the Palestinians who for a variety of reasons, left Israel in 1948. This would surely result in a land that is hostile to both Jews and Christians, as well as people of other faiths.[/caption]

As bewildering and complex as the question may seem, there is a clear answer.
The Bible tells us that the Land of Israel and its boundaries arise from a covenant that God made with Abraham, Isaac, Jacob and their descendants—the Jewish People.
In that Abrahamic Covenant, God describes the land that was occupied by ten people groups and that geographically extended from the “Wadi of Egypt” to the Euphrates as the inheritance of the Jewish People.
“On that day the Lord made a covenant with Abram and said, ‘To your descendants I give this land, from the Wadi of Egypt to the great river, the Euphrates—the land of the Kenites, Kenizzites, Kadmonites, Hittites, Perizzites, Rephaites, Amorites, Canaanites, Girgashites and Jebusites.’” (Genesis 15:18– 21, see also Deuteronomy 1:6–8 above, Exodus 32:13 and 33:1)

[caption id="attachment_32515" align="alignnone" width="544"] David Ben-Gurion publicly pronounced the Declaration of the State of Israel on May 14, 1948.[/caption]

On the heels of the Holocaust and a UN resolution—on May 14, 1948, David Ben-Gurion who later became the first Prime Minister of Israel proclaimed “the establishment of a Jewish state in Eretz-Israel, to be known as the State of Israel.”
Today, this official use of the term Eretz-Israel (literally, Land of Israel) is a reference to the covenant that the God of Israel made with Abraham and the descendants of Isaac and Jacob.
It also underscores the fact that the new Jewish State was established on only a portion of the land which God promised the Jewish People, according to the expansive borders mentioned in Deuteronomy 1:6–8, Genesis 15: 18–21, Exodus 23:31.

[caption id="attachment_19137" align="alignnone" width="544"] The British Mandate for Palestine administered territory that had formally belonged to the Ottoman Empire, which had controlled the Middle East since the 16th century. In 1917, it was declared that a national home for the Jewish People would be made in Palestine. Later, the area east of the Jordan was illegally separated, and Jews were forbidden to settle on about 77% of Palestine, while Arab settlement was unrestricted. In 1946, Transjordan (Jordan) became an independent nation, and in 1947, the Jewish People were offered about 18% of the area of Palestine. Although the Jewish People accepted it gratefully, the Arab world rejected it.[/caption]

The Origin of the Term “Palestine”
“I will establish your borders from the Red Sea to the Mediterranean Sea, and from the desert to the Euphrates River. I will give into your hands the people who live in the land, and you will drive them out before you.” (Exodus 23:31)
Under the British Mandate after World War I, the British controlled an area of the Ottoman Empire that was divided into two sections—the land west of the Jordan River and the land east of the Jordan (Transjordan). The British called the land west of the Jordan River “Palestine.”
In fact, Jews who were born during the Mandate have birth certificates stating that they were born in “Palestine.” Historically speaking, the term “Palestinian” applied to anyone living in the area, including Jewish people.

[caption id="attachment_19583" align="alignleft" width="335"] States adjacent to the Kingdoms of Israel and Judah, with the Philistine states in red on the left.[/caption]

The historic reference to the term “Palestine” goes back as far as Herodotus, the 5th century BC Greek scholar who mentioned in The Histories a “district of Syria, called Palaistine.”
The land of the Phylistiim is also mentioned in the Septuagint, the second century BC Greek translation of the Hebrew Bible. Phylistiim means Philistia, the southwest portion of Israel peopled by the Philistines.
Although the ancient Philistines were neither Semites nor Arabs, but Indo-Europeans, the modern usage of the terms “Palestine” and “Palestinian” is generally linked with these Biblical names of Philistia and Philistine.
The term Palestine only came into use to identify the whole of Israel after AD 135 when the Roman Emperor Hadrian defeated the Jewish zealots in their second revolt (Bar Kokhba Revolt).
Hadrian imposed this term to humiliate the Jewish People by naming the Land after Israel’s enemy and to negate any connection between the Jewish People and their Promised Land.
Sadly, this led to the whole land being called Palestine even though the name was originally associated with only the small area of Philistia within the land of Canaan, which came to be Israel.

[caption id="attachment_32527" align="alignnone" width="544"] The Western (Wailing) Wall in Jerusalem is a remnant of the wall that surrounded the Jewish Temple's courtyard. Because of its physical connection to the Temple, it's traditional for the Jewish People to come here to pray.[/caption]

Political Battle Over Judea Samaria and the West Bank in the State of Israel
“‘For I will take you out of the nations; I will gather you from all the countries and bring you back into your own land.” (Ezekiel 36:24)
Following the establishment of the State of Israel, the Israeli government continued to use the term Eretz Israel to maintain the historic link with God’s promises to His Chosen People Israel.
In 1951 and 1952, Prime Minister David Ben-Gurion twice highlighted that the Jewish state was created “in a part of our small country” and “in only a portion of the Land of Israel” in official state documents (State of Israel, Government Yearbook, 5712, 5713).
In 1955, he emphasized that “the creation of the new State by no means derogates from the scope of historic Eretz Israel." (State of Israel, Government Yearbook, 5716)
From the beginnings of the state, Herut (Freedom), Israel’s major right-wing party, had been the political party that gave the greatest support to land policies linked to the Biblical promises.

[caption id="attachment_5545" align="alignleft" width="276"] David Ben-Gurion served as Israel's first Prime Minister from May 17, 1948 until January 26, 1954. He resigned in 1954 and served as Minister of Defense. He returned to office in 1955, and served as Prime Minister until 1963. Time Magazine posthumously named him one of the 100 Most Important People of the 20th Century.[/caption]

The Herut party was founded by Menachem Begin, who would become Israel's sixth prime minister. He founded it as a successor to the Irgun, a militant paramilitary group that operated in Mandate Palestine, which he also led.
Later, Herut was joined by Gush Emunim (Bloc [of the] faithful), an Orthodox messianic political movement committed to the establishment of settlements in the so-called West Bank (Biblical Judea and Samaria).
Both parties firmly supported the belief that the land acquired by Israel during the Six Day War in 1967 is part of Eretz Israel and therefore belongs to the Jewish people.
They claimed that for ideological and religious reasons, Judea and Samaria are rightly a part of Israel, and should therefore be annexed permanently to the State.
Today, the Gush Emunim party no longer officially exists, and Herut has merged with the center-right Likud party. Founded by Menachem Begin in 1973, Likud has also been the ruling party of Prime Ministers Ariel Sharon and Benjamin Netanyahu.
Furthermore, there is a wonderful diversity of opinion that is freely expressed in Israel's political sphere.
While left-leaning party leaders often contend that territory must be relinquished in exchange for peace with the Palestinians, the ruling Likud supports the existence of Jewish settlements in Judea and Samaria, since they consider that territory to be part of the historical-biblical land of Israel.

[caption id="attachment_32514" align="alignleft" width="310"] The map on the left shows Israel's districts, including Judea and Samaria, which are also called the West Bank. The map on the right shows the settlements in Judea and Samaria. The major settlements are represented by red dots.[/caption]

Palestinians Make Unreasonable Demands
“I also established my covenant with them to give them the land of Canaan, where they resided as foreigners.” (Exodus 6:4)
The Palestinians continue to make demands that are unacceptable to Israel.
Those demands include accepting the “pre-1967 borders” that leave Israel with a narrow land area that cannot be adequately secured.
Demands often include the barring of Israel Defense Forces from entering, monitoring, or controlling Areas A and C of the West Bank, as well as the release of hundreds of terrorist prisoners held in Israeli jails.
In recent years, however, the Palestinian Authority has lifted its longstanding demand that Israel freeze construction of Jewish homes in East Jerusalem and the settlements as a pre-condition to peace talks.
“We have not made the settlements an up-front issue this time,” said Abbas’s senior economic adviser and former deputy prime minister, Mohammad Mustafa.
Beyond settlements and borders, the Arab world continues to demand that those who claim to be "Palestinian refugees” from 1948 rebirth of Israel, be allowed to move back to Israel.
These refugees are now estimated to be in the millions and if allowed to gain Israeli citizenship, there would be more Arabs in Israel than Jews who could vote. That would lead to an Arab majority government and the Jewish State of Israel would become a Palestinian Islamic State.
The Arab world blames the Jews for winning the 1948 War as the Palestinians fled to Gaza, Jordan, and Lebanon. However, they completely disregard how they expelled approximately one million Jews living in Arab lands in 1948, confiscating their possessions and property. These Jewish refugees have never been compensated for their losses.
Palestinians in general seek to reclaim the entire land of Israel "from the Jordan River to the Mediterranean Sea."
Yet, God has different plans.
The only independent country that has ever existed west of the Jordan River is Israel, and Scripture calls Eretz Israel (the Land of Israel) an everlasting possession.
“I will establish my covenant as an everlasting covenant between me and you and your descendants after you for the generations to come, to be your God and the God of your descendants after you. The whole land of Canaan, where you are now an alien, I will give as an everlasting possession to you and your descendants after you; and I will be their God.” (Genesis 17:7–8)

[caption id="attachment_32533" align="alignnone" width="544"] Israel is a very small country that is roughly the size of New Jersey in the United States or Vancouver Island in Canada. This tiny Jewish state is surrounded by a massive sea of 22 Arab countries, and an even vaster sea of Muslim majority countries. Most of those countries are hostile to the existence of a Jewish state.[/caption]

Arabs assert that they are the descendants of Abraham through Ishmael, and are therefore entitled to the covenant land of Israel, but this is certainly not the case.
Not all Arabs are descendants of Ishmael. Not all Palestinians are descendants of Ishmael.
Furthermore, even if they were, according to Scripture, Ishmael and Abraham's other sons were not the heirs of the covenant; Isaac and his descendants were the heirs.
"... your wife Sarah will bear you a son, and you will call him Isaac. I will establish my covenant with him as an everlasting covenant for his descendants after him. And as for Ishmael, I Isaac so they would not share the same land (see Genesis 16:12; Genesis 25:12–18).

[caption id="attachment_31175" align="alignnone" width="544"] A young Israeli wears tefillin
