Workshop on Data Analysis in MS Excel

Brief Description of the Workshop: This was an informative workshop on Basic Data Analysis in Excel, designed for beginners and those looking to enhance their data management skills. This hands-on session guided the participants through the essential features of Excel that are crucial for effective data analysis.
Led by one of our own faculty Ms Trishna, the workshop covered fundamental topics such as data organization, using formulas and functions, creating charts, using the VLOOKUP function and generating pivot tables. Participants learned how to manipulate data sets, perform basic statistical analyses, and visualize data effectively to derive meaningful insights.
Through practical exercises and real-world examples, attendees gained confidence in using Excel. The interactive format encouraged questions and collaborative learning, ensuring that everyone leaves with a solid understanding of the concepts covered.

My Body My Safety Workshop

Brief Description of the Workshop: Rubaroo, a dedicated NGO focused on empowering youth and promoting safety, conducted an event titled "My Body and My Safety" aiming to educate participants about personal safety, body autonomy, and the importance of consent.
The session featured interactive workshops led by an experienced facilitator who specializes in child and adolescent psychology, protection and personal safety education. Participants engaged in discussions about understanding their rights, recognizing safe and unsafe situations, and learning how to assert boundaries. Through role-playing activities and group discussions, attendees gained practical skills to navigate challenging scenarios and foster a culture of respect and safety.
Additionally, the event included informative presentations that highlight the significance of mental health and self-esteem in relation to personal safety. Attendees asked questions and shared their experiences in a supportive environment.
Vrundavan Field Trip

Brief Description of the Workshop: On a sunny morning, a group of enthusiastic learners arrived at Vrundavan Agro Farm, a picturesque oasis dedicated to sustainable living and innovative horticultural practices. Nestled amidst lush greenery in the interiors of Neral, the farm is a living testament to eco-friendly agriculture, showcasing a harmonious blend of traditional methods and modern technology.
The visit began with a warm welcome from the farm's owner Mrs. Ketaki Mhaskar, who shared her journey into sustainable living. She explained how the farm operates on principles of permaculture, emphasizing biodiversity, soil health, and water conservation. As the students strolled through the vibrant greenery, they witnessed firsthand the array of organic produce, from wild cucumbers to fragrant herbs, all cultivated without synthetic pesticides or fertilizers.In addition to horticulture, the farm demonstrated sustainable living practices, such as rainwater harvesting and renewable energy solutions and living in synergy with nature. Students of SYBA and TYBA Economics had fun in the local waterfall, and spent time with each other.
Throughout the day, the atmosphere buzzed with enthusiasm as participants engaged in discussions about sustainable practices, different native plants and their historical usage, and the importance of supporting local economies. The visit not only provided valuable insights into horticultural business models but also inspired a deeper appreciation for the environment. As the sun began to set, casting a golden hue over the fields, attendees left Vrundavan Agro Farm with a renewed sense of purpose, eager to implement sustainable practices in their own lives and communities. This enriching experience underscored the vital connection between agriculture, sustainability, and the well-being of our planet.
Community Service Program

Description: On 27th September 2024, the Economics Department organized a career guidance session titled "Exploring Future Economic Roles" for high school students of the Indian Education Society School, Mulund (E). This initiative aimed to provide valuable insights into the wide range of opportunities available in the field of economics and inspire young minds to pursue higher studies and careers in this discipline.
The session commenced at 11:30 am at and featured active participation from final year Bachelor of Arts (TY BA) economics students. The activity was particularly aimed at 10th standard students from a local school, who were accompanied by their teachers.
They visited the school and took the lead in briefing the 10th-grade students about various career paths in economics. The TY BA students provided an engaging overview of the economic sector, explaining how economics plays a critical role in shaping corporate strategies, government policies, and financial markets.
Throughout the session, the TY BA students highlighted career opportunities such as:
1. Corporate Sector Roles – Positions in market research, data analysis, and business consulting that demand economic expertise to analyze trends and support strategic decision-making.
2. Government Policy-Making – Opportunities in public administration, where economic insights are crucial for formulating policies related to healthcare, education, and social welfare.
3. Financial Analysis and Investment – Careers in investment banking, financial advising, and asset management, which require a deep understanding of economic indicators and financial systems.
4. Research and Academia – For those interested in further studies and contributing to economic research, there are numerous roles in universities and think tanks.
The 10th-grade students were highly enthusiastic and asked several thought-provoking questions. They were curious about the real-world application of economic theories, the role of economics in business, and how they could prepare themselves for a career in this field. The TY BA students, being closer to their academic level, provided relevant answers and shared their personal experiences, making the session highly interactive and relatable.
This activity served its purpose of broadening the students' horizons about economics as a field of study and a career path. The event concluded with an inspiring message from the Economics Department, encouraging students to pursue their interests and consider the exciting opportunities that a degree in economics can offer.

Description: The Department of Economics hosted an engaging Economics Quiz Competition for undergraduate students, bringing together bright minds to test their knowledge of economic theories, current affairs, and real-world applications. The competition featured multiple rounds, and questions covered general economics, macro and microeconomics, financial markets, and economic history.
Teams of students competed in a fast-paced environment, answering challenging questions that assessed their analytical thinking and problem-solving abilities. The event also included a crossword elimination round, buzzer round, pictionary round, spin the wheel round etc. where quick reflexes and sharp intellect played a crucial role in determining the winners.
Faculty members served as judges, ensuring a fair and stimulating contest. The winners were awarded certificates and prizes, recognizing their exceptional understanding of economics. The competition not only fostered academic enthusiasm but also encouraged teamwork, critical thinking, and a deeper appreciation of economic concepts. Overall, the event was a resounding success, inspiring students to explore the subject beyond textbooks.

"Beyond Belief: Science Dismantles Black Magic Myths"

On the occasion of National Science Day and Samvidhan Gaurav Mahotsav, the Department of Economics organized an educational program titled "Beyond Belief: Science Dismantles Black Magic Myths" on 27th February 2025. The event, held at the Mini Auditorium from 10 AM to 12 PM, aimed to instill scientific thinking among students and promote constitutional values.
The session was led by guest speaker Nirmala Mane, accompanied by two experts, who emphasized the importance of critical thinking and rational inquiry. They highlighted the relevance of Article 51A of the Indian Constitution through an engaging song, making the session informative and entertaining.
What made the session particularly interactive was the direct involvement of students. Some black magic rituals were performed on them to demonstrate the science behind supposed supernatural phenomena. Additionally, students were actively engaged through thought-provoking questions.
The speakers debunked myths surrounding black magic by explaining the logical reasons behind them. They also stressed the significance of knowing one’s constitutional rights to prevent exploitation through superstitions.
The event encouraged students to question blind beliefs and embrace scientific reasoning.

Ms. Sara Dalvi is an ex-student of Kelkar College and currently is working as the Asst. Vice President in Risk and Control Domain. The session focused on career opportunities in the U.S., covering key industries such as finance, insurance, consulting, and regulatory compliance.
The speaker discussed in-demand roles like risk analysts, credit risk specialists, and financial risk managers, along with essential skills, certifications (FRM, CFA, PRM), and job market trends. Students gained valuable insights into industry trends, job roles, and career pathways, including risk consulting, credit risk analysis, and actuarial science. Students engaged in an interactive Q&A session, gaining valuable insights into industry expectations, networking strategies, and pathways to building a successful career in the U.S.
