A guest lecture on ‘Study and career opportunities in Politics and International Relations’
A guest lecture on ‘Study and career opportunities in Politics and International Relations’ was organized by the Department of Economics in collaboration with the Department of Political Science and the Economics Club of Mumbai. The resource person was Dr. Bhavna Dave of the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), University of Bristol. This guest lecture was held on 13th February 2024 at 9:30 a.m. in the conference room.
Third year students of BA in economics and Political Science attended this guest lecture.
Dr. Dave discussed the various career opportunities available to students in international relations and the various course subjects that SOAS provides the students in order to pursue that career.

This event was held by the department of Economics on 15th February 2024 11:00 a.m. onwards at the Mini auditorium.
Participants engaged in deep discussions on preassigned topics related to the chosen thinkers’ contribution to Indian politico - economic thought. They touched upon the contemporary applicability of the thinkers' given ideas. The Chosen Indian thinkers were Chanakya, Dadabhai Naoroji, Mahatma Phule and M.G Ranade.

Movie screening and discussion event called “Cinechat on the movie Inside Job”
This event was held by the department on 8th Feb 2024 at 11 a.m. at the Radhabai Vaze Auditorium.
This event involved screening of the 2010 movie ‘Inside Job’, which shows the various causes that led to the global financial crisis of 2008 and the various people and institutional neglect that was responsible for it. The movie screening was followed by a spirited discussion among the viewers, regarding whether the same instances are being repeated with respect to the world economy, especially after COVID and the current economic situation of the world. They also discussed weather the emergence of cryptocurrency would again lead to the downfall of the world economy.

An economics quiz competition called ‘ECOLYMPICS: The ultimate Economics Quiz’ was held on 23rd February 2024 11:30 a.m. onwards at the Mini auditorium.
The quiz competition involved participation of individuals and teams to test their knowledge of basic economic concepts and their applications in a fun and interactive manner.
DEPARTMENT OF ECONOMICS INDUSTRIAL VISIT 2024-24
Economics Department of V.G .Vaze College organized a 7 day Amritsar – McLeodganj- Dharamshala excursion to provide its students an enriching and learning experience. Around 27 students and two professors were a part of this tour which commenced on 30th January, 2024 and lasted till 6th February, 2024.

This course serves as a platform to introduce students to essential concepts, tools, and applications within the realm of data science. The focus of the curriculum is to develop quantitative, problem solving and analytics skills required for today’s jobs.
