Γεια σας (Hello)! My name is Vasileios Niaouris (he/him), and I go by Vasilis (Va-si-les). Welcome to my website!
I'm a graduate student pursuing a Ph.D. in Physics at the University of Washington. I am conducting research for the Quantum Defect Laboratory, led by Professor Kai-Mei C. Fu. My work focuses on the determination of optical and spin properties of a novel spin-qubit system, shallow neutral donors in the direct band gap ZnO.
Throughout my academic career, I have developed skills in table-top experimentation, data analysis, statistics, scientific simulation and equipment integration and automation. My background primarily focuses on the fields of quantum information and particle physics. I am also very interested in working in other fields, such as climate solutions, sustainability, renewables and linguistics, and learn how to utilize tools such as machine learning and AI.
Outside of work and academic studies, you will find me world-building, conlanging, reading or cooking. I especially enjoy creating open-source tools for world-building and conlanging communities. Check out my personal projects here!
