Visits, Colloquia and Webinars
A visit to Zebra Fish Facility of Daulat Ram College, University of Delhi was organized on April 21, 2023 to let students understand the Zebra fish as a research model as well as its development under maintained laboratory conditions.
International webinar on "Integrating Developmental Biology and Ecology- A New Frontier" on January 28, 2023. The speaker was world renowned developmental biologist Prof Scott F Gilbert.
A visit to National Food Testing Laboratory was organized on October 14, 2022 to make students (of Food, Nutrition and Health paper) aware about the procedures and techniques used in testing food adulteration and providing FSSAI certificate to the product.
E-workshop on "Development of Chick and Mouse Embryos: Experiments and Molecular Techniques" on March 12, 2022. The guest speaker was Dr Raj Ladher, NCBS, Bangalore.
During Covid 19 pandemic an Alumni talk series- "RECONNECT" was initiated with the aim to bring all the alumni of the Zoology Department, Deshbandhu college to a common interactive online platform where students can share their achievements and experiences. in this series Dr Ravi Toteja of batch 1989-1992, Dr Sivaram V S Mylavarapu of batch 1991-1994 and Mr Rajat Rastogi of batch 2011-2014 were invited to speak about their research and experiences.
A weekly lecture series "Colloquium" was initiated in 2019 with an aim to inculcate scientific aptitude among young minds and make them aware of latest developments in Science. It was inaugurated by Dr Shivani Soni, Scientist, California State University, USA on July 26, 2019. She delivered a lecture on “Role of Erythroblast Macrophage Protein in Macrophage Development and Function”. A series of around 16 talks were organized on different topics by eminent experts of national and international repute.
A "Biodiversity Club" was started in 2019 to connect students with the nature. A nature walk at Okhla bird sanctuary, Delhi was organized on January 23, 2020 to observe and assess both the flora and the fauna of this sanctuary, with special emphasis on the avian population.
A visit to the Institute of Genomics and Integrative Biology (IGIB), Mathura Road, Delhi was organized on September 28, 2018 to provide an insight knowledge of cutting edge technologies used in modern scientific research.
