This website is about the Varikattu family and its various generations. The present-day Varikattu people are descendants of Varikattu Thomman who settled on the banks of the Meenachil River, Cherppunkal, Koattayam, in the 1800s. The family names of most people have changed over time, depending on the place names where their descendants moved on to like: Madathil, Pandiyamthottiyil, Kanjirathinal, Kannampadam and so on, OR the way it is spelt such as Varicat, Varikattu, Varikkattu, etc.

The Varikattu family also belongs to the Knanaya Jewish Christians who migrated to Kerala from Mesopotamia in 345 AD. The Knanaya people, who initially settled in Kodungallur, eventually moved to places like Chungam, Kaduthuruthy, Kottayam and Idakkad in Kerala. Thus, Varikat Thomman and his family also migrated to Cherpunkal and settled on the banks of the Cherpungal Meenachil River.  Varikattu Thomman had four sons: Kuriakko, Onnan (Kannan), Thomman and Chummar. 

Kuriakko, the eldest son, stayed with parents in the Varikattu ancestral home. He was married from the Pellathal family and had two sons (Thomman and Chandy) and two daughters. One of the daughters was married off to Kidangoor Pillaveettil family and the second daughter to Maridam Pellathal (Padikyalil) family. Thomman married and moved out of the ancestral home, and settled in the Madathil property. Chandy married and stayed with parents.

Onnan who was also known as Kannan, settled in the Patheeplakil property, had only two daughters: Chinnamma and Mariyam.

Thomman is married to Mariam from the Elambaseril family and settled in the Kaanjirathinal property. They had three sons: Thomma, Chummar and Ulahannan, and two daughters: Mariam and Anna.

Chummar is married to Mariamma from the Arakkapadikkal family and settled in the Pandiyamthottiyil property, had a son named Thomman and nine daughters.
