As the parent of an addicted teenager, I require means for measuring said teenager's nicotine vapor consumption over time so that I have a basis for setting a cessation goal, a reduction plan to meet said goal and tracking means to measure progress against said plan and said goal.
I require means for,
measuring consumption of nicotine vapor so that usage can be tracked,
means for recording and storing measurements with date and time information so that they are available for later analysis,
means for viewing measurements over time so that I can compare actual consumption against said plan of consumption over time,
means for making periodic adjustments to said plan so that I can compensate for said teenager's struggles to stay on said plan,
means for anonymously sharing said recorded dated and time-stamped nicotine consumption measurements along with a GUID that uniquely ties together said measurements to said anonymous user so that (a) machine learning models have training data required to recommend reduction plans to future parents and addicted teenagers and (b) to offer data to the medical community for research to help advise addicted teenagers, parents, schools, law makers, law enforcement, schools and communities,
means for anonymously sharing demographic information about the addicted teenager such as weight, height, gender, and zip code, so that machine learning models can be made more accurate and so that the medical community has access to more details which can help shape better guidance for the constituents mentioned above in point #5.
I require fine granularity in the measurement of nicotine consumption that can distinguish long inhalations from short because the amount of nicotine consumed with each inhalation is material to the reduction plan. (I acknowledge factors other than time and outside of my control that can influence the amount of nicotine consumed, factors such as vaporizer heating element temperature, coverage of nicotine solution on element, and velocity of inhalation. I anticipate that the variation these factors impose from one inhalation to another by the same user will be statistically insignificant over the course of said reduction plan.)
I require that the system be tamper resistant because my addicted teenager or associates of my addicted teenager may succumb to the temptation of unmeasured, un-metered and/or unrecorded vaping. Tamper resistance will provide me with peace of mind that my committed teenager is not abusing my efforts to help them reduce his/her consumption of nicotine.
If the measurement device is opened or otherwise disassembled, a corresponding "disassembled" log entry will be recorded and means to alert me of said "disassembled" log entry so that I can discuss it with my addicted teenager.
If the delivery device is dissociated from the measurement device (e.g. the JUUL is removed from the monitoring device) a corresponding "removed" log entry will be recorded and means to alert me of said "removed" log entry so that I can discuss it with my addicted teenager.
If some portion of the deliver device is removed from the delivery device while attached to the monitoring device (e.g. the JUUL Pod is removed from the JUUL), a corresponding "removed" log entry will be recorded and means to alert me of said "removed" log entry so that I can discuss it with my addicted teenager.
It should be obvious to someone skilled in the art of connected device design and development that, should there be other vlunerable aspects of the delivery device or monitoring device, sensors should be able to detect interference and a corresponding record and alert means created.
I require anonymity for myself and my child. I do not want any data that could be linked to me or my child to be shared with an organization, peer network, or anywhere else. Sharing profile data and usage data must be optional and, if shared, must be completely anonymous.
Enforcement would be an interesting option but it is not a requirement for me because I recognize that my addicted teenager has access to other sources of nicotine including delivery devices and nicotine solutions that are available on Ebay and other internet commerce websites. I believe my addicted teenager will decide not to access these other options when the cravings of addiction are weak and I believe my addicted teenager will be largely unavailable in the times that the cravings of addiction are strong.
As an addicted teenager,
I want the device to be discrete and easy to use,
I would like the device to help me measure the length of my inhalations,
I would like the device to keep track of my use so that I can refer my usage against my intentions,
I would also like to be able to see how my progress compares to other kids like me.
I want to remain anonymous.
As a member of law enforcement,
I want to be able to quickly discern the child that is honestly trying to kick the nicotine habit from the wiseguy that is vaping under cover of treatment so that I am better equipped to make a contextual decision.
It would be useful if the device could confirm that it is being used according to a plan and that it has not been tampered with.
As a member of the students' academic team,
I want to be able to quickly discern the child that is honestly trying to kick the nicotine habit from the wiseguy that is vaping under cover of treatment so that I am better equipped to make a contextual decision.
It would be useful if the device could confirm that it is being used according to a plan and that it has not been tampered with.
As a member of the medical community seeking to understand patterns in the reduction of nicotine use, I would like access to anonymous usage reduction data.
Ideally, the data would be complete with demographic information.
Age, Gender, Weight, Height, Zip Code, Number of Siblings, Rank in Siblings, Grade in School, Type of School, Size of School (total student count)
How long has child been vaping?
Has child tried quitting before?
What are starting symptoms?
What type of vape device was child using?
I would also be interested in outcome data (whether or not the subject was able to quit for at least a week).
I would also be interested to know whether this was a first attempt or some later attempt.
As a member of the data science team seeking to create machine learning models that can provide ideal usage reduction recommendations, I would like access to anonymous usage reduction data for the purpose of data analytics and model training.
Ideally, the data would be complete with demographic information to improve algorithms and tailor them more closely to the individual.
(See specific list above - requirements should be driven by researchers and social scientists)
Outcome data (whether or not the subject was able to quit for at least a week) is essential to training my algorithms.
I would also be interested to know whether this was a first attempt or some later attempt. (This could be a contributing predictor to the ML model.)
Hey! Can this device help adults too?!?!?
Sure thing!
As an adult nicotine addict, my requirements are rolled up into both the Parent and Teenager requirements.
My additional requirements are:
