Laboratory Learning - laboratory curriculum analysis and development of more authentic research experiences within the curriculum
Peer Learning Assistants - examining the role of peer learning assistants in introductory chemistry and biology courses and how the experience impacts their instructional beliefs and practices
Science Communication - creating and assessing activities to encourage students' science communication skills
Metacognition - how students develop metacognition and regulate their learning
We use qualitative educational research methods to collect and analyze data to answer questions about chemistry education. Students with all backgrounds and interests are encouraged for these projects as diverse perspectives aid to the richness of qualitative research. Research students gain expertise in proper data handling, coding software, interpreting data, designing research studies, and communicating their findings.
If you have interest in learning more about any of these projects or conducting research in the VW Research group, email Dr. Van Wyk (andrea.vanwyk@drake.edu).
