This Field Period was targeted Spanish Minors and it provided the ideal opportunity to practice my Spanish communication skills as well as build cultural context behind the language to help me better understand how to use the language. Building these skills will benefit my future in the interpreting field as it will further develop my capabilities to interact with various people of different backgrounds and languages. It deepens my cultural understanding and appreciation while also allowing me to be more closely connected with those communities by building a relationship through language and culture.
With this experience, we each chose a research topic pertaining to Costa Rica. My topic of choice was the Tourist Impact on Local Culture accompanied by Ecotourism. Costa Rica is the origin of Ecotourism and is one of the only success stories when it comes to how positively the tourist industry has impacted the country. It was only fitting to study such a topic in the country that it correlates to the most.
Below are the links to my daily reflective journals as well as my summary paper and research paper. Each dive into a different aspect of this trip and give insight into my experience.
