Concept Statement
I am developing a shelter for the resilient people of Haiti who have been affected by the recent natural disasters. The response to the sun is my roof, which will provide shade throughout the day for people to leisure under, as well as a mess netting with seating and sleeping areas underneath. The wind on site will be slowed down by a four-foot exterior wall and the removal of four cinder blocks on the southwest side of the building which will allow for natural ventilation with shutter windows. on the northwest side to pull the air through the shelter. This design fulfills the human need for shelter by ventilating, keeping a private but also inclusive space, and controlling the shade.
