Who is Lily Green you ask? 

Lily is a senior from Atlanta, GA, studying Elementary Education and Child Studies! VOB has been such an integral part of her college experience, and she has loved every moment as a VOBber. Over the past few years, Lily has been a cast member in several shows, as well as the Secretary and Vice President on VOB's Executive Board. Outside of VOB, Lily is a member of Chi Omega, a student leader at Hillel, and is constantly on the hunt for children's books for her future classroom library.

What does the President of VOB do?

The president leads the Executive Board and is responsible for the day-to-day operations of VOB! The president creates agendas for and leads Executive Board meetings, facilitates the selection of Artistic and Executive Board members, leads trainings, and carries out many miscellaneous tasks to support the organization!

What is your favorite thing about being a member of VOB Exec?

Being able to have a positive impact on Vanderbilt Off-Broadway is, of course, the best part of being on exec!! I have loved growing as a leader in this organization and supporting others in their growth as well! The dedication of our Executive Board is so inspiring, and I can't imagine spending my Wednesday nights doing anything else!!

What is your advice for someone who is thinking about joining the VOB Executive Board?

Please apply!! Every VOBber has such unique gifts, talents, and perspectives, and we would love to have yours on the Executive Board!! Who is Mallory Otsuka?

Mallory is a junior studying Secondary Education and Political Science with minors in History and French!! In VOB, she loves to perform, choreograph, and intimacy coordinate, and she is also involved in Voce A Cappella, VUcept, and Chi Omega!! She loves to be with Vobbers and thinks that if you’re reading this, you should join VOB!

What does the Vice President of VOB do?

The Vice President helps handle and resolve personnel issues, collaborates with the social chair on social events, and supports the President and the rest of the board with whatever the org needs!

What is your favorite thing about being a member of VOB Exec?

I love being part of a group that is so passionate about this org that we all love so much, and seeing the work that we do turn into concrete changes and improvements!

What is your advice for someone who is thinking about joining the VOB Executive Board?

Take the leap and apply! You have a certain set of strengths and knowledge that no one else does, so show everyone what you bring to the table that makes you unique!

Who is Chizara Idika?

Chizara is a third year undergraduate from Houston, Texas, and she’s studying Neuroscience and Anthropology on the premedical track. Her hobbies include creative writing, crocheting, roller skating, and watching literary TV adaptations. On campus, she is involved in research through the SyBBure Searle Undergraduate Research Program, arts and crafts through the student organization Life’s a Stitch, and cultural organizations like the Black Student Association and African Student Union. Chizara got involved in theatre back in high school, dabbling in onstage singing/acting, costume design, and set design. Here at Vanderbilt, she has really enjoyed serving as production manager and producer at VOB and in the assistant stage manager role at VUT. Till date, her favorite VOB show is Company; she regularly listens to the 2006 revival cast album! Chizara can be found in the basement of Central Library, probably crying about her homework while not doing it.

What does the Producer of VOB do?

The producer/treasurer is responsible for handling VOB’s finances following VU guidelines. This entails preparing the yearly budget, reserving spaces for performances and rehearsals, requesting show licensing through VOB's faculty advisor, overseeing the Production Manager(s) and all production expenses, managing relations and the payment of off-campus storage and construction space rentals, managing all in-house purchases, and ensuring that VOB stays within budget throughout the year. 

What is your favorite thing about being a member of VOB Exec?

I seriously love the people!! I love that while we do get down to business at our weekly meetings, ultimately the VOB exec meetings are a time for us students to get together and hang out while we work towards putting on great shows and spreading the magic of musical theatre!!

What is your advice for someone who is thinking about joining the VOB Executive Board?

Don't be afraid to get your feet wet and try your hand at something new! Even if you don't have prior experience in the executive board role you are interested in, still apply. VOB is a great place to gain student leadership and teamwork experience, and we're all here to support one another!

Who is Maddie Butters?

Maddie Butters is a sophomore from Portland, Maine (shout out The Way Life Should Be) majoring in Elementary Education and Math! She adores VOB and feels so grateful to have done shows with VOB as a cast member, A-board member, and on the Executive Board as Secretary (best job ever!!!). If not at rehearsal, you can probably find Maddie crocheting adorable small animals, practicing her skills as a Canva Warrior, thrifting, in Neely Auditorium (maybe building, maybe painting, maybe in rehearsal for VUT), or at Commons Munchie ordering yet another coffee (try the Turtle Latte I promise it will change your life)!

What does the Secretary of VOB do?

The secretary creates and publishes our monthly newsletter VOB Voice, makes all the programs for our shows, takes minutes at our meetings, and updates this very website!!

What is your favorite thing about being a member of VOB Exec?

I love working with people who are so passionate about what they are doing!! Everyone on the exec board is so kind and also driven and determined to make this org the best it can be! You truly can't beat the community of kind, silly, hardworking, compassionate, and whimsical people we have on exec and I am so excited to see what we do next!!

What is your advice for someone who is thinking about joining the VOB Executive Board?

PLEASE APPLY IT IS SO REWARDING I PROMISE!! Don't have a ton of experience with some of the roles on our executive board? No worries, you will receive guidance and training! Who is Jonathon Williams?

Jonathon is from a small town called Manchester, Tennessee and is majoring in English, Secondary Education, and minoring in theater! He loves music, playing guitar, reading, singing in uncomfortable silence, and reciting random Fleetwood Mac facts at any given notice!

What does the Social Chair of VOB do?

The  social chair plans all social events for VOB! Their goal is to make sure each member feels included and well immersed within the organization. My job is to make sure everyone is having fun!

What is your favorite thing about being a member of VOB Exec?

I love being able to make a difference within our organization. I think my role in particular really allows everyone to take a moment and really appreciate those around them. So often, when it comes to school and extracurriculars, we can get stressed out and busy very quickly. My job is to make sure that each member has stories to tell other than studying or doing homework and I'm very appreciative to hold that role in everyone's memories!

What is your advice for someone who is thinking about joining the VOB Executive Board?

DO IT DO IT DO IT!!!! It's so rewarding to make a difference within the community that you surround yourself in. You get to really see the difference you make and your ideas inspire others!!

Who is Luci Wingo?

Luci Wingo is a Nashville-native junior at Vanderbilt studying Medicine, Health, and Society with a concentration in Health Politics and Economics! When she is not geeking out over musical theater on the side, on campus she is a part of Vanderbilt College Democrats executive board as the VP of Membership, as well as a member of Alpha Delta Pi. She highly enjoys all things music, journaling, writing, scrapbooking, seeing VPAC performances and spending time with her people and surrounding herself with love!

What does the Publicity Co Chair do?

Being on the publicity board entails working alongside another wonderful member of VOB exec to curate everything and anything on our social medias and other publicity events such as the Org Fair and tabling! Being on the publicity chair helps you gain proficiency in churning out posts that follow trends, gain an audience, and create an environment that appeals to potential new members of VOB while also managing role delineation, problem solving, and working as a team! From cast and crew announcements to silly reels that showcase our fun-loving environment, being one half of the publicity chairs is such a privilege and is #SoFun!

What is your favorite thing about being a member of VOB Exec?

My favorite part of being on VOB Exec is definitely the community gained from it. VOB Exec has such an incredible atmosphere that mixes professionalism and play. Everyone is so involved and passionate about everything VOB related, while still being able to remember we are all peers first and foremost and lead with each other's best interests forward. It is truly a one of a kind experience.

What is your advice for someone who is thinking about joining the VOB Executive Board?

VOB Exec is an incredibly guided and supported process. You are not thrown out to the wolves to figure out your job and what to do with it! Previous exec leaders and current exec leaders are there to support, help, and offer support the entire way! There is truly nothing to lose and nothing to be scared of, so, go for it!

Who is McKenzie Larson?

McKenzie is a sophomore mechanical engineering student at Vandy (we know, quite different from theater), but don’t let that fool you, she absolutely loves dance, theater, and books. She grew up in Georgia and spent her life performing and building projects. Some fun facts about her, McKenzie is a dancer of 17 years and choreographer, her favorite musical is Chicago, and if you need a book recommendation, she suggests to please pick up Shatter Me (shoutout Kenji). McKenzie has been a part of VOB’s winter show and spring show, as both cast and A-board and it was one of the best times she has had at Vandy. So many memories were made and the people were phenomenal. She loves being on VOB’s executive board as publicity chair and can’t wait to grow along with VOB.

What does the Publicity Co Chair do?

As a co-publicity chair, I help raise VOB's visibility on our showcases and productions. I help post announcements and dates for upcoming shows, design and print posters and anything that represents VOB as an organization. I assist in making fun videos on our current project and get to share how we, as Vobbers, connect as a family. Publicity chair is also in charge of recruiting and tabling during the first few weeks of classes and show week.

What is your favorite thing about being a member of VOB Exec?

The people make VOB exec the VOB exec board. Everyone on the board is supportive and will always bring a positive attitude to meetings. We are all working towards the same goal, and it is absolutely wonderful to be able to listen to others passionately discuss their ideas that help Vanderbilt Off Broadway grow as an organization.

What is your advice for someone who is thinking about joining the VOB Executive Board?

Do it! It is so much fun, and you get to create a community while nourishing the one you already have. The people a part of VOB exec will always love you and value your ideas!

Who is Leah Angilly?

Leah is a junior at Vanderbilt studying elementary education and theatre with plans of being a theatre educator. When I’m not in a VOB meeting or planning for a rehearsal, I’m also a member of ADPI (BOOM BOOM) and I stage manage with the Vanderbilt University Theatre.

What does the External Outreach Chair do?

I collaborate with non-Vanderbilt organizations to organize community service opportunities and Vanderbilt’s philanthropic efforts in an effort to connect VOB’s community to the greater Nashville area. One of my main roles is to co-production manage VOBaret, VOB’s annual philanthropic cabaret. 

What is your favorite thing about being a member of VOB Exec?

I love working with a group of passionate, hardworking, and compassionate people who go out of their way to be supportive, uplifting, and welcoming while working together to complete a goal. Whether it’s asking for help when you’re drowning in work or just a day when you need a pick-me-up, the members of the executive board make it not only a place where you are a leader, but also a place where you are able to learn and grow. My time on the VOB executive board has made me more a better leader, but more importantly it has made me a more confident, kind, inclusive, and driven person and for that I am immensely grateful. 

What is your advice for someone who is thinking about joining the VOB Executive Board?

My biggest piece of advice for anyone interested in joining the board is to think about what you want to do with the role you are interested in and to not be afraid to step outside the box or do things that have previously not been done in that role. There have been a lot of great ideas in VOB, but never your ideas, so don’t be afraid to come up with new, creative ideas, even if they don’t work out exactly as planned. There is no right or wrong way to do a role on the executive board, there is just your way to do it!

Who is Jay Lough?

A person of many words, many actions, and many things in general, Jay Lough is a bit of a ‘jack of all trades.’ At least, that’s what he wants you to think…because it’s true! What is your advice for someone who is thinking about joining the VOB Executive Board?

I would say they should fill out the interest form and sign up for interviews, but beyond that, try not to take things too seriously. You’ll lose your mind here if you do that. I mean, have a little bit of structure, don’t just be completely apathetic, but also have perspective. It’s a balance. So…find balance between those two things, I guess.
