Born to Bloom
Ink drawing
Artist Statement:
I feel a great connection to the natural world around us and I try to communicate this appreciation for nature through my art. In this drawing I wanted to convey a sense of hope and a vision of a brighter future for us women and girls. The woman and child are looking up and towards the light and the flowers are turning to face the sun. The relative darkness in the lower right side of the drawing represents the struggles and darker moments each of us face. However, turning our focus away from the dark and towards the light, even if it is just a faint glimmer, can help us to experience greater joy.

Peace
Photography
Artist Statement:
I found this image from my Friend Loral. It is taken in Alberta near Turner Valley. I thought that when one’s Heart is breaking because of abuse that we need a PEACEFUL spot to view the Heavens. God painted a picture and called it the world, with mountains valleys and streams. He gave it to man saying this is your world, guard it with LOVE and felicity keep FAITH with me, keep FAITH with ME.

Home from the Slope
Oil
Artist Statement:
“Home from the Slope” is a picture I painted a long time ago as the cover to "Finding My Family,” a book that I wrote and is widely distributed in English and French later this month, on Amazon etc. and courtesy of Knowledge Network on Google. The scene is SO Regina, Saskatchewan east end in the old days and will be easily recognized by old-timers from there. It is probably all built up now. I love the picture and never get tired looking at it.

Aunt Minni and Uncle Mel Anderson
Oil
Artist Statement:
The photo that was chosen for the cover of "Finding My Family" was of Aunt Minni and Uncle Mel standing in front of the sod hut they built near Riverhurst, Saskatchewan (ca. 1914). This painting is one I painted from a photo that has been lost. I never met those relatives but it is indicative of my pioneer family who came up from Duluth, Minnesota in 1912 and ran the ferry at Riverhurst, Saskatchewan and farmed, but most eventually went back to the U.S. It would be 1969 before I found them, although I had joined the church in 1951 and tried to find my genealogy for all those years. I love to paint and to write.
