A Brief History of Valley Lake Club
The seven acre lake was constructed sometime in 1967 on a tract of land approximately eleven and a half acres. A nonprofit corporation, Valley Lake, Inc., was formed in February of 1974 with forty neighborhood families as charter members. In 1989 the City of Raleigh purchased a sewer right-of-way and ran a new sewer line along the west side of the property.
A major dredging and renovation project took place in 2001 that revitalized the lake and made it more attractive. The sediment was dredged, shoreline cleared and reshaped, a new spillway installed, and a quality half-mile walkway was finally completed around the lake. A new peninsula was created with the dredged material and became the new picnic area.
In 2015, a lake survey was conducted by a local pond management company. As a result of that survey they recommended some supplemental stocking of fish. We added 2,500 Bluegills and 140 Largemouth Bass. The majority of the bass stocked were a Florida/Northern strain known for their rapid growth rate. In addition to the fish, habitats were created and sunken throughout the lake to ensure a quality fishery.
Today the membership includes over sixty families who enjoy hiking, fishing, boating and picnicking at this tranquil hideaway in North Raleigh.
