If you need a visa (non-US passports), you cannot apply until you have your original letter of acceptance from WHU.
You should contact the embassy and make an appointment as soon as you can because it may take some time. Your acceptance letter should arrive within a couple of weeks of your application submission. If you get an appointment and have not received your letter within a few days of your appointment, you should contact WHU.
Residence Permit: All Non-EU citizens staying in Germany for more than 3 months must get a residence permit. You will need to apply for your student residence permit at the local alien office (Auslanderbehorde) in Koblenz after your arrival. The International Relations Office will assist you in this matter and will inform you in detail during the orientation days.
In order to save time, we kindly ask and strongly suggest that you gather the required documents before you leave your home country. This means that you will save a lot of time and problems. You need to gather the following documents:
Copy (or print out) of proof of sufficient funds in English or in German (bank statement, account statement, certificate of scholarship and/or parent’s certificate). You should consider an amount of at least 600 EUR per month. The proof has to be from a recent date.
Copy of proof of valid health insurance in English or German (mandatory data needed: confirmation letter specifying coverage for sickness, emergencies and all medical expenses, insurance period – whole time you will spend in Germany/Europe, region or country of coverage).
Passport copy
Copy of WHU letter of acceptance
Passport-sized photo
NOTE: They will need to know what date you are leaving the country, so you must decide by the time you arrive in Germany.
Please note that resident permit/visa requirements can change at any moment and our offices will not be informed. It is the student’s responsibility to check the embassy website for updated procedures and required documentation.
If you have any questions, your best resource will be your host university or the consulate. Our office is happy to help as much as we can, but are not experts in immigration.
