This assessment is somewhat different from our other assessments. The students are given a choice for each part between two options and then use the information they learn to construct an argument in the last part. While I like the choice this provides it does create more work to plan and it is not always the case that different activities are equally beneficial.
Students use what they learned in the assessment to explain what is happening in a scenario and propose a solution. The scenario is an alien is living on an asteroid and is strong enough to jump into space. He travels to Earth thinking he can act as a superhero on our planet, but finds out that not only is he unable to fly, but he can hardly walk. Why does this happen?
