People on the Move and the First AGe of Empires
Day 1 - 2: The Indo-Europeans were a group of nomadic peoples who may have come from the steppes north of the Caucasus. Not much is known about these early tribes, but historians link many modern languages that are spoken throughout not only Europe, but also modern day Iran and India to a now dead language from this region.
Assignment: Read Text Chapter 3.1 (p. 61-65)
Days 3-4: Minoan and Phoenician travel brochure project.
Day 5: Review Minoan and Phoenician civilizations. Complete Quiz #1 (from text 3.1 and 3.3).
Day 6: To understand the roots of Judaism, review the following items:
Days 9-11: In class, we are highlighting some of the elements of the Egyptian, Assyrian and Persian empires found in Chapter 4 of the textbook. First, students should complete the "PharaohBio" handout utilizing the website: http://www.pbs.org/empires/egypt/newkingdom/index.html
Next, students should complete a timeline including a number of ancient civilizations (Phoenicians, Minoans, Hebrews, Egyptians, Assyrians, Chaldeans, Persians).
Finally, consider the notes in the presentation below:
