I have performed metagenomic assembly and binning on environmental samples from the White Oak River estuary, Gulf of Mexico hypoxic zone, Deepwater Horizon oil spill, San Francisco Bay and the Guaymas Basin Hydrothermal Vent System. This research has allowed us to better understand the geochemical role of microbes by allowing us to equate microbial metabolism to nutrient cycling in these environments.
During my PhD, I contributed to our understanding of this domain by examining the presence and diversity of the Asgard superphylum in sedimentary environments.
