Are you passionate about exploring the evolution of microbial metabolism and eager to work in a dynamic and interdisciplinary environment? The De Anda lab at the University of Florida (UF), invites enthusiastic PhD students and postdoctoral researchers to apply for GRFP, PRFB or Marie Curie fellowships
Why Join Us?
Our lab research employs a holistic approach that integrates lab work, fieldwork, and advanced computational methods. We bridge the gap between data science and microbial ecology through innovative culture-independent techniques, aiming to uncover the fundamental metabolic principles that govern microbial life across diverse ecological and evolutionary contexts.
Location: Our lab is situated at the UF/IFAS Fort Lauderdale Research and Education Center, 3205 College Avenue, Davie, FL 33314 Enjoy stunning beaches, year-round pleasant weather, and a vibrant community in Davie Florida.

I am excited to consider passionate and driven students and postdocs. However, due to limited funding, I can only support a small number of new members at this time. Supporting my students with adequate funding and mentorship is very important to me. Here are some important details regarding funding:
Funding: I currently have funding available for one postdoc. This means that unfortunately, I cannot accept all applicants who have expressed interest in joining the lab in 2025. I encourage prospective students to explore alternative funding options to join the lab (see funding opportunities below).
Teaching Assistant (TA) Opportunities: One alternative pathway for students to join the lab is to become a Teaching Assistant (TA) in Gainesville. This would involve:
Completing rotations in other labs during your first year.
Securing a TA position to cover your stipend.
Joining the De Anda Lab will depend on funding either from the student or the lab.
Students who can secure their own funding (e.g., through the NSF Graduate Research Fellowship Program (GRFP) or other external scholarships) will have a different process and can be directly admitted into the lab (no teaching assistantship (TA) required).

3.. Fill out the Questionnaire. This will help me understand your background, interests fit to the lab
4. Review our lab's personnel expectations to see if the lab’s culture aligns with your career goals.
5. If you believe we are a good fit, email [Your Name] your CV along with comments about your motivation to work with in the lab and your specific project interests. We can then schedule a meeting to discuss your potential fit in the lab and any specific projects you might be interested in.

The PhD program typically admits students each fall semester, so the next application deadline is December 15, 2024, for admission to the Fall 2025 semester.
If you would like to be considered for either Spring 2025 or Summer 2025, we can accommodate that. Students admitted in these semesters would be admitted directly to my lab without rotating with faculty in Gainesville
If you have any additional questions about the PhD program, please feel free to reach out to me and Jacqueline Lee directly at jlee9[at]ufl[dol]edu
