Water Fire Extinguisher
Water fire extinguishers are used to extinguish class A fires, or in other words fires involving flammable solids such as paper, wood, and textile materials. They are most commonly used within environments containing combustible materials such as warehouses, textile factories, storage facilities and office spaces
Foam Fire Extinguishers are suitable to fight burning solids such as wood as well as liquid fires such as burning petrol. The foam has the ability to creep over the burning liquid or to soak into burning materials such as settees.
Dry powder fire extinguishers smother fires by forming a barrier between the fuel and the source of oxygen.
As they do not cool the fire, there is a small risk of re-ignition.
CO2 fire extinguishers contain pure carbon dioxide which is a clean extinguishant, leaving no residue. Suitable for class B flammable liquid fires (petrol, oil, solvents), and recommended for use on live electrical equipment.
Wet chemical is the only type of extinguisher to be used on kitchen (F-Class) fires. These extinguishers work by instigating a chemical reaction with fats and oils. This reaction reduces the temperature and eliminates the heat, causing flames extinguishment.
