Description: This flock hatched some great ideas about engaging students in more authentic learning activities centering around problems, projects, and/or performances on October 7th and came up with three areas to explore right away. The overwhelming request was to SHARE! We want to share ideas, share examples, and share feedback with each other. We plan to have a place to share asynchronously (details to follow) as well as an opportunity to learn from each other synchronously on the second Tuesday afternoon of each month. Please feel free to join our roost even if you did not get to participate on October 7th.
Please sign up to receive notifications and to contribute synchronously or asynchronously.

Here are some performance-based tasks created with teachers in Virginia. I thought they might promote some questions or comments from the group. There are some specific instructional design processes used to develop them. I hope you can share some examples from your divisions, as well. (Others can be found here.)
As you review the resources below, what questions come to mind? What do you notice? How do these represent student-centered learning? Or maybe they don’t? How might you adopt or adapt tasks like these? What are the characteristics of the tasks that you find useful? Or not? Feel free to ask other questions.
3rd grade science task developed with teachers and ITRTs in Martinsville City Schools to assess SOLs related to habitats.
5th grade writing assessment designed to replace Writing SOL test using writing rubric from VDOE.
8th grade task developed with teachers in Henrico County to assess the 5Cs (but at that time it was more like the 4Cs?
