Mission
Mission
Y Math is a relatively new Mathematics lecture series at the University of Washington, started in 2024, and organized by Alexis Drouot and Cynthia Vinzant, with the help of Alexandria Tan and the mathematics department staff. It aims to fight the widely spread idea that mathematics is an abstract discipline disconnected from applications by establishing stronger connections between UW Math students and the industrial world.
The event consists of an hour-long talk and more informal discussion between a professional leader and our Mathematics students. The goal is to showcase the fundamental position of mathematics across science and technology, and discuss paths to well-paying and intellectually stimulating jobs.Â
